Courtney Robert Cantrell Jr. was born April 26, 1961 in Inglewood, CA to Melissa White Eagle and Courtney Cantrell Sr. He passed away September 26, 2016 at his home in Wolf Point, MT.
He lived the majority of his life in Wolf Point. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was very close to his nephews and nieces. When he was a teenager he went to Kicking Horse Job Corps in Ronan, MT and graduated. Coming home to Wolf Point, he worked seismographing, some firefighting, railroad work, and renovations and construction with his father.
Later on he moved to Oregon, where he met Kathy Vanderbilt to this relationship was born his only child, Courtney Verle. They later separated and he came back to Wolf Point.
Courtney Jr. enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. He had a good sense of humor and always had the family laughing about something.
He leaves behind his mother, Melissa Cantrell of Wolf Point; sisters, Juanita Cantrell, Della (Phillip) Pipestem, Jonny Lee Bearcub all of Wolf Point, Rosaline Tompkins, Carla (Ron) Soto of Lacy, WA, Georgia (Brian) Dupuis of New Jersey, Debra Dolde of California; brother, Michael (Earlene) Ackerman-Cantrell of Poplar, MT; adopted brother, Martin (James) Bordeaux; son, Courtney Verle Cantrell of Oregon; special friend, Paula Azure of Wolf Point; lots of uncles and aunts on both sides, JoAnn White Eagle, Vivian Jones, Mildred Clancy, Louella (Mike) Conteras, Arnold, Jeffery, and John Douglas, Rosemary (John) Morsette, Agnes Ward, Otto Cantrell Jr., Leonard (Sharon) Cantrell, Newton Cantrell, Arthur and Virgil Cantrell, Steve GrayHawk, Mary Wolf Child, Ida Rae Youngman, Sylvia Cantrell, Vivian Martin, Emma Mae Groat.
Those preceding him, his father, Courtney R. Cantrell Sr.; uncles, Wayne (Jiggs) Cantrell, Llewellyn “Rusty” Cantrell, Frankie Birdsbill, Merle Lucas, Richard Cantrell, David Cantrell, Leroy Douglas, Steve Douglas, Duane Douglas, and Jesse Douglas; aunts, Hazel, Emily, and Roseann Cantrell; brothers, Ruben Castro, Christopher Castro, Verle Cantrell, and Michael Paul Cantrell.
A prayer service will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 29 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 30 at the Wolf Point Community Hall. Interment will follow at the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences for the family may be left using the form below.

I knew Courtney from kicking horse I came all the way from Connecticut. Courtney wasn’t just a friend he was a good brother we did the forestry program together I ended up leaving cuz I was just a different kind of kid. I guess that’s why they sent me to Job Corps. I wish I would have stayed I’ll always miss Courtney I think about him
