Daniel David Heckmun was born July 14, 1945 to Dan and Ruth Heckmun in the small town of Neeha, Wisconsin. He joined an older brother Bily and sister Elane. Dan lived on the family farm until age six when his family sold the farm and Dan and his dad and mom moved to Culbertson, Montana. His father ran a shoe shop that was located where the office side of the Larson Lumber building now stands. Dan and his parents lived in the back part of that building.
Dan lost his dad when he was 12 years old. Dan’s first job was sweeping floors and odd jobs at the Gamble Store across the street from his home.
Dan went to front end school and worked in an alignment shop in Sidney, MT. While in Sidney he also worked for a fiber glass fabrication shop.
He started and ran a paint and body shop behind the old Evans Hotel.
On July 18, 1973 Dan married Evelyn Sweet. To this marriage was born three sons, Danny Ray, Bucky Lee and Randy Joe.
Dan was never permanently employed by any one. He worked for just about everyone. He worked a lot for Joe Walkonis and Rommie Ellerkamp.
In his later years Dan lived in a little house next to his son Danny Ray.
Dan fought a courageous battle with cancer. He left this earth to join his family in Heaven in the early morning hours of September 11, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of many years Evelyn Heckmun, and four sons David Daniel, Danny Ray, Bucky Lee and Randy Joe and his wife Debbie.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, a brother Billy and a sister Elane.

Robert & Marie Mile says
We wanted to share our condolences with Daniel’s family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3,4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.

Danny was a good friend to me while growing up in Culbertson; he taught me so much about electronics and cars and I don’t know where he learned it? My condolences to his family including the Sweets living in McCabe who I knew in my earlier years. I know Danny did many interesting things in Culbertson and maybe many more learned from him as I did!

Danny was an amazing man. He could always make you laugh, had amazing stories to tell, and always helped you whenever he was able without question. The short year or so i was around Danny when he worked at the Stagecoach in the Casino on and off were always awesome and will always hold a place in my memories. Ill never forget Danny’s laugh and his Cartoony jokes, or a few stories with vehicle issues haha. Danny will be missed by all who know him and hold a special place in everyone’s heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Heckmun family, I’m deeply sorry for your loss.

Danny was a frequent visitor (coffee lover) at our house while I was a teenager. He often worked for my Dad (Romie Ellerkamp) and he was a “jack-of-all-trades” as there didn’t seem to be a job he couldn’t do. He was quite the story-teller and could make any ol’ story much more dramatic and interesting. I am sorry to hear of Danny’s passing. My sympathy to all of his family and friends… especially Evie and their sons.

I always enjoyed my visits with him in his home and in the home. Our visits were fun indeed. Bless him.
