Our beloved Darris Jon Duboise “Dancing Bear”, 28 years old when he passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the family’s residence in Wolf Point, MT.
Darris was born to Karen I. Duboise on June 6, 1989 in Sidney, MT. He was named by his aunt Karla at birth, after a well-known grass dancer from Oklahoma. Darris attended Frontier school from K – 8th grade, going onto Wolf Point High School 9 – 12 and graduating in May of 2008. He was active through out school in wrestling and basketball, however enjoyed skateboarding the most with his older brother Norris. After high school, he started working at NEMHS with maintenance, Cenex West as cashier, DJ Swap shop in customer service and Albertson’s grocery store until he got into a car accident that impaired his back that he couldn’t work any longer.
Growing up to present, he was easy going, friendly, happy, made friends easily. Very helpful to anyone who asked, would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He loved to cook, draw, write poems, spend time with his friends and family. On December 13, 2013, his one and only son Jaidynn Jon Duboise was born and changed his life forever. He was very over protective of him, would always be by his side and spent quality time with him. Darris was very precise on his clothes, SHOES & hat’s, anything white had to stay bright white… he wouldn’t let anyone wash his clothes, as he would wash them again.
Over the years, he made some close friends who became brothers to him… Jordan Stafne, Frank Chopper, Marcus Allrunner, Ben Azure, Lewis Siljenberg, Cyrus Calder and many others.
He was preceded in death by his oldest sister Nickcole Lee Red Tomahawk who helped raise him when he was born until he was 3 years old, when she passed away; brother, Norris Lee Red Tomahawk who Darris looked up to growing up; grandmothers, Maybelle Chapman, Evelyn E. Smith & Marie Summers who also helped raise Darris and was very close to him; grandfathers, Henry Duboise & Gene Chapman; as well as an aunt Patti Duboise-Sam.
Darris is survived by his only child, son Jaidynn Jon Duboise of Wolf Point, MT, mother Karen I. Duboise of Wolf Point, MT, sister Berta (Shawn) Red Tomahawk of Porcupine, ND, aunts Karla Duboise & Candy (George) Blount of Wolf Point, MT, Lorna (Ron) Walking Eagle & Monica Duboise of Fort Totten, ND and uncles Eric Duboise of Fort Totten, ND & John (Stacey) Summers of Wolf Point, MT. A close 1st cousin, Oliver Davis, Jr of Wolf Point, MT who grew up together from birth and many other cousins maternal & paternal sides. Two special nephews, Dusan E. Red Tomahawk of Kildeer, ND & Drayton K. Grey Bear of Porcupine, ND and nieces Erika N. Red Tomahawk, Tiana C. Gray, Tamyra M. Gray & Nautyka “Notti” S. Grey Bear all from Porcupine, ND.
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Stanley Hollow Horn, Jr of Wounded Knee, SD & George Blount of Wolf Point, MT on Friday, May 25, 2018, 11:00 am at the Clayton Stevenson’s Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point, MT. After the burial, a meal will be provided at the Wolf Point Community Center.
“To my son Darris, you will be missed. Why did you leave? I know it’s my own selfishness asking this, I know it will take time… I know you are not suffering anymore, you are whole again and with your sister, brother and the rest of our family. We will all take good care of Jaidynn and he will know who his dad was…. I love you and will miss you so much! Love, mom.”
