Roxanne Marie Morsette, “Roxy”, born May 30, 1990, to Farrell Simons of Poplar, Montana and Darian Morsette of New Town, North Dakota, she began her journey to the other side on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the age of twenty-five years old. Roxanne was enrolled on the Fort Peck Reservation, where she lived. Roxanne was Sioux, Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara. She was a child of the Prairie Chicken Clan.
Roxanne grew up in Poplar, Montana, often visiting her father’s family in New Town, North Dakota throughout her childhood and young adulthood. She attended schools in Columbus and Poplar, and participated in basketball, volleyball, cross-country, and cheerleading. Roxanne received her high school diploma from poplar High School (Class of 2008), and attended school at Fort Berthold Community College, United Tribes Technical College, and Fort Peck Community College seeking an Associate’s degree in Business Administration.
Roxanne was employed as a Cultural Resource GPS/OIS Tech for the Fort Peck Tribes. She loved nature, enjoyed beautiful sunsets, being at the lake, fishing, swimming, jet skiing, and hiking. Roxanne carried her love of sports into young adulthood, following football and basketball closely, in particular, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roxanne was just beginning to explore life, and was a gentle, caring young woman. She is remembered for her compassion and empathy, and a beautiful, warmhearted smile. She loved her family, friends and her “babies” Marley (puppy) and Thumper (bunny). She shared a special bond with Grama Jo. She made friends easily and was always there for her friends. Her loss is felt by all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her mother, Farrell (Dennis) Simons, her father Darian ( Kirsten) Morsette, her sisters, Antoinette Simons, Andrea Brown, Kirah Morsette and brother Kobe Morsette, her maternal grandmother Jo Ann Russell, paternal grandparents, Gene and Elizabeth Morsette, aunts Leslie (Gene) Morsette, Tracy Red Dog, uncle Patrick (Lacey) Morsette, God mother Stephanie Howard Baker as well as numerous aunties, uncles, and cousins in both communities. She is preceded in death by her older brother, Maurice Morsette, Aunt Robin Morsette, grandfather Darrell Red Dog, and uncle Darrell Red Dog, Jr.
