Barbara Jean Murray was greeted by all her late relatives, friends and pets on May 3, 2021. Barb was born in Poplar, Montana on February 15, 1948 to Robert and Patricia Murray. She spent most of her childhood in Brockton, Montana and attended Brockton Schools. She was a true Brockton Warriors fan till the end. Ever the childhood “tomboy,” she excelled in many sports and became a gifted grass dancer.
Barb attended her high school years at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Stephan, South Dakota. After graduation, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and completed her basic training in Massachusetts. Upon completion, she was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. She was proud and honored to serve her county. After being honorably discharged she began a life of travel and adventure.
Her travels eventually landed her in working at Schlumberger Oil Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she met and married Monte Stadel. They made their home in Woodward, Oklahoma. After many years of marriage, they divorced but remained close friends. Barb never had children of her own but was always proud of her role as Auntie or Grandma.
She had an adventurous life and certainly lived it by her own terms. She was truly a sweetheart! Her last request was to be cremated with no funeral services. Her ashes will be scattered in the Missouri River at a later date.
Barbara was proceeded in death by paternal grandparents Isaac and Adeline Murray, maternal grandparents Bud and Tiny Atkinson, parents Robert and Patricia Murray, sisters Dallas Falcon and Billie Gayle Murray Bemer. She is survived by sisters Cathy Murray, Patty Murray, brother Robert “Boy” (Theresa) Murray and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren that she loved like her own.

My best friend ever. Still can’t believe she’s gone. I just talked to her on the phone the day before. Barb and I go way back even joined the service together. We never lost contact – our best times were in Las Vegas for the finals. We often laughed and talked about all the crazy stuff we did. Life won’t be the same without her. Prayers for Patti Ann, Kate and Boy.

What a lady! Our family got to know Barb the best when she started coming out to mom and dad’s to help clean their house when mom got sick. She was such a good friend to them both, and to our family and our kids. She always had time to visit with them from when they were little. and was always “Grandma Barb”. ❤️ Our condolences to the family. Barb was a very special lady.
