It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Darius Walter, 81, of Prairie Elk Colony passed away peacefully, into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus on February 28, 2021 with his family at his side.
Darius was born on August 1, 1939 to Elias and Susie Walter at the King Ranch Colony, near Lewistown. In 1963 he moved to Stanford, MT, where he helped to establish Surprise Creek Colony. June 14, 1964, he married the love of his life, Annie and together they raised 9 children.
Darius was a farmer all his life and had a great love for the land. In 1969 he became farm boss at Surprise Creek Colony. He managed this job for 25 years. Then in 1995 he became financial manager at Surprise Creek Colony and continued to manage Prairie Elk Colony until 2018.
In 2006 Darius and his family moved to Prairie Elk Colony near Wolf Point, MT. A place that he loved with all his heart.
Darius had a passion for farming. He loved to watch the fields grow from the tiny seeds, and put his faith in God as the seeds turned into Ember waves of grain.
His love for farming continued on in his sons. Darius had a heart of gold and had a giving heart for the poor. He was a very kind hearted man. Dad loved to go for evening rides with his wife and anybody who wanted to come along. Especially in the summertime when the crops were in full bloom. Dad we will miss you so much.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Annie of 56 years and his 9 children, Dan (Cathy), Terry (Ruth), Benny, Annie Marie and Bill (Karen) of Prairie Elk Colony, Sally (David), Becky (Martin), Linda (Marvin) of Surprise Creek Colony and Debbie (Tom) of North Harlem Colony; 21 grandchildren, whom he had a very special bond with and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Paul (Rachel), Joe (Annie), David (Susanna), his sister Mary and many nieces and nephews. Dad also leaves to mourn his many friends and extended family.
Darius was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eli (Anne), Ben (Rachel), Leonard and his sister Rachel.
