Donald S. Reum, Sr., was born on March 15, 1944 in Poplar to Idabelle Wilson Reum and Eli “Starky” Reum. He was raised by grandparents Joseph and Jessie Wilson on the old homestead, and also raised by his aunt Jenny Wilson in Old town.
He attended schools in Wolf Point, Flandreau and Pierre, SD. After graduation he enlisted in the Marines. He was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He returned home after serving his country. Sam loved sports, he joined Moses Dionne’s basketball team called the Wolf Point Runners. They traveled playing in many tournaments from state to state and reservation wide. They all remained close as they got older.
Sam worked various jobs throughout his life but was most proud of being a BIA police officer, a security guard for Silver Wolf Casino and USOS driving rural routes delivering mail to farmers. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and meeting his coffee buddies (Chug, Dave, Lanny and Charles) at Lucky Lil’s or home.
Sam also enjoyed playing machines. Most of all he enjoyed visiting with family and friend and all his grandchildren and all other little ones whom called him “Grand Pa”.
Dad Sam is survived by children Jodi Smith and children (Micky, Jake and Heath) of St. Anthony, ID, Stella Reum and children (André and Alixee) of Wolf Point, Eliot Raymer of Fort Wayne, IN, Donna Reum of Wolf Point, Norma Reum of Wolf Point and children Emma and Jakob Wetsit, Sam Jr. of Wolf Point, Clay Reum of Pablo, MT and Mike Gann of Missoula, MT; Diane Morales whom he remained close with; brother Clayton “Chug” Reum (Donna) of Wolf Point; sister Velma Haws of St. Anthony, ID and his cousins whom were raised as brother and sister, Lanny (Cathy) Deserly of Wolf Point and Beverly Buckley of Browning, MT; grandchildren Attisyn, Braxton and Redgie of St. Anthony, ID.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Jessie Wilson; mother Idabelle; father Eli “Starky”; sisters Thelma Reum and Alvine Martinez; brother Leighton “Bunny” Reum; son Ricky Smith; daughter Sherry Reum.

Sorry to hear that my old basketball buddy has journeyed to the other side. Sam was a natural athlete with a big heart, and he had a great sense of humor. He kept us laughing when we were traveling on those long, winter roads to tournaments. Big hug to his family. My brother, Dave (Itchy Fuzz,) also sends his condolences. Hiy, hiy! ♥

Our condolences from all of us in South Dakota. My dad used to bring Sam down here to visit us every now and then. I remember one year they came down and everybody in Wolf Point was worried because nobody knew where he was until they got back. Hugs and prayers.
