Our Heavenly Father called Doris home on January 4, 2023, surrouned by the love of family, in Billings, Montana.
The little town of Poplar, Montana was blessed with the presence of Doris Ann McKay on July 22, 1950 to Patrick McKay and Theresa Walking Eagle-McKay. In Doris’s early life she met Dewayne ‘JimmyJohn’ Duncan while she was living in San Francisco, and together they had Anthony, Haleena, and Dena. Later on in her life, Doris met Rodney Bruner while residing in Poplar, Montana, and together they had Mikel and Ke’Anna.
Doris Ann started working at a very young age, and she flourished in many career paths. She began as a rod man surverying many home sites, which started the builds for homes in Poplar’s community. She also worked as a seismegrapher, sugar beet worker, and firefighter. With some of these careers she had worked alongside with her daughter, and nephew. Doris also worked as a fema responder and she helped people during natural disasters. Two events specifically that her family remember, is she helped with the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, and Columbia Spaceshuttle recovery for Nasa. Her recent employment was working at Fort Peck Housing as a counselor, providing for her grandchildren. She positively impacted many communities, was a hard worker and she was never intimidated by masculine jobs.
Doris was brought up in a Catholic church that she attended with her parents, and her siblings. Later in life, she became born again, and was a respected sister of the Poplar Assembly of God. She was always giving, always helpful, she attended bible study, prayed for all of her family, friends, and relatives, or anyone who needed prayer. She attended church regularly, studied God’s word, and was always praising God.
Doris loved going to the movies, travelling, eating out, listening to music, going to basketball games, and spending quality time with her grandchildren, and family. She had such a big and kind heart that was seen and felt by many. We will always feel the absence of her physical presence, but we know that she is basking in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.
Doris is survived by her sisters Patricia McKay, and Iris McKay; children, Anthony(Melinda)Duncan, Haleena Duncan, Ke’Anna(Cliff)Bruner Bird, and Mikel Bruner; nephews, John ‘Smokers'(Angela), Eugene, JohnFrank, Tony; nieces, Vangie, Tana, Tiffany, Alyssa, Diane, Marian, Johnette; Grandchildren, Ashly’Ann(Oliver), Christian, Austin, Trey, Damon, Vanessa, Dena, Heaven, Darian, Jace(Cortney), Mailey, Paisley, Jade(Daniel), Baby Anthony, Nicole, JimmyJohn, Peyton; great grand children, Hayden, Reilly, Tatum, Stephanie, Ellie, Madison, Mason, Trey, Angelica, Luciyoma, Tony, Albert, Antonio, Keisha, Cloe, Eva, Jeina, Duncan, Mavis, Priseis, Laucus, Amelia, Ezekiel. And many other loving family members, and if we forgot to mention you we are sorry it was not intended. You all were loved by grandma Doris, and she prayed for every single one of her family members. Her prayers are with you now, and always.

I just came across Doris’ obituary while looking for someone else’s. And what a coincidence as I was just asking someone from Poplar if they knew her. I worked with Doris & her friend Gail on a pipeline crew in Williston in about 2008 or so. Great lady! Hard worker, very personable & so easy to get along with. I’m from Glendive & she had some connections there. She made an impact on me as I’ve never forgotten her. I’m so sorry for the loss of this special lady.
