Edgar Jones, age 67, of Poplar, MT passed away on January 15th, 2024 in Billings.
Edgar is survived by grandchildren, Darren, Darian, Virgil “Spanky” Merculieff, Jesse, Alisa (Tracey),Brittany (Lawrence), and James Iron Bear Jr. all of Poplar; great grandkids, Shawn, Jaymin Wise Spirit, Angel Wise Spirit, Kayla, Jackie, Mary Rose, Jen, James Iron Bear III, all of Poplar; two half-sisters, Juanita (Doug) and Naomi Montclair both of Poplar; sister-in-law, Vivian Jones of Poplar; nephews, Virgil “Moosie” Ricker, Stanley “Cowboy”, Manny, Fritz, Maynard Jr., and Leland Jones; nieces, DeAnne, Earlene, Marta, LaDonna, Alva, Sylvia, Lillian, Baby E, and Farrah; and extended families in Brockton and Poplar; and friends, Anne Lester & Yvette Todd, both of Poplar.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Jones Sr. and Lillian Lester, brother in law Virgil Ricker Sr.; daughter, Bronica “Lottie” Uses Arrow; brothers, Earl Jones Jr, Richard “Buck” Jones, Maynard Jones Sr.; sisters, Mary Jane, Rita, Ester Marie, Arlene, Myrtle; aunt, Gladys; and numerous other relatives.
Edgar graduated from high school May 16th 1977. He then shortly after enlisted in the Army as a Nuclear Specialist from 1979 – 1973. After being discharged from the Army, he went on to graduate from the Fort Peck Community College, earning his Associate Arts and General Studies in May of 1997. He followed that by enrolling in Rocky Mountain College. Graduating in 2001, earning his Associates and Bachelors degree in the process.
Edgar loved family and friends. He was often seen around one or the other. His humor and personality being rather infectious to those who found themselves in his company. He enjoyed watching sports, mainly football and basketball. His favorite football team being the Minnesota Vikings and his favorite basketball team being the LA Lakers. Also, he was often seen watching his favorite TV shows, Law & Order, NCIS, and various other shows. He was always seen carrying a Mountain Dew, it was his all-time favored drink. He never went a day without it. His favorite music artists being The Eagles and Bon Jovi. He worked a long time at Poplar Schools as a paraprofessional, finally retiring after a decade or more of being there. If you needed him, he was there for you. He often cared more about the wellbeing of others, other than himself.
I apologize to anyone I was unable to name or reference as he knew so many, our family is huge and his friend list is so long. Thank you all for being apart of his life. Each of you shaping each other into who you are today. Just know that you were loved and appreciated by him.
A vigil service will be on Wednesday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 25th at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.

He and I walked into Rockys graduation together in 2000. There other Ft Peckers as well. We were nervous as hell Just knowing someone from home shaking with nervous energy just like me helped.
