Eileen Marie Atwood, 84 passed away peacefully on February 16, 2022, at Logan Health in Kalispell, MT. Eileen was born August 10th, 1937, to Eleanor and Adolph Anderson in Kenmare, North Dakota. She was one of six children who grew up on the family farm near Coulee, North Dakota.
Eileen was baptized in September 1937 and confirmed in June of 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She graduated from Kenmare High School in 1955. Attended State Teaching School in Minot, receiving a First Grade Elementary Teaching Certificate. She worked for several years teaching.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Dwaine Atwood and together they had four children. Eugene’s occupation took them to live in Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Montana as well as the Canary Islands. In 1971 Eileen and family moved to Wolf Point, Montana where she resided until her passing.
Eileen had several occupations in her journey. She was a caregiver providing care in the nursing home and hospital prior to moving to Wolf Point. She was a bookkeeper and helped manage Westland Gas Station in Wolf Point. She worked at J.C. Penny in Wolf Point before accepting a position at Buttrey’s Food Store which later became Albertsons and worked there for 35 years before retiring at the age of 72 in 2009.
Eileen loved being part of her community and enjoyed helping others. She volunteered and gave to many causes. Eileen liked to visit with friends, enjoyed social gatherings and spending time at the Wolf Point Senior Center. She was always thoughtful of others and would take the time to talk. Eileen was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolf Point, regularly attending services and enjoyed conversations with the Pastor and members of the congregation. She was an avid reader and a member of the Wolf Point Library reading club.
Eileen enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard; she spent many hours tending to her flowers, working in the garden and making her grass green and weed free. She found overwhelming pride in baking cookies, pies and caramel rolls and making jelly. Family and friends never left the house empty handed when they visited. She always looked for new recipes to perfect her baking skills.

Growing up…Eileen was like a grandmother to us. She was one of my Grandmother Jennie’s best friends and we spent many, many days at her house. We enjoyed Schwan’s Vanilla ice cream with chokecherry syrup, her gorgeous rose bushes, and her always shiny Red Pickup. Rest in paradise. I am sure Gram was waiting for you with open arms.
