On March 19, 2023, Togo passed away after battling health conditions for several months, while being cared for by his elder brother Meade Lizotte in Wolf Point Montana at the age of 60
Togo Lizotte was born in Poplar Montana on March 16, 1963. He was the fourth child and the baby son of Lucy Jane and Alfred Lizotte, Sr.
Togo was beyond rich with family and friends that he was devoted to and held dear to his heart throughout his lifetime. In his early years of schooling both he and his older brother spent their time attending Indian Boarding schools across the nation until they returned to their hometown Poplar Montana to complete their high school years at Poplar High School.
Togo was a “Hunkpapa” enrolled member of the great Sioux Nation and learned in his culture and traditions. Many were unaware that he spoke his language fluently with the old dialect as taught to him by elder members of his family and friends that shared the same pride of being Hunkpapa. He lived his life in a manner that was humble without the trappings of material wealth and a time clock. Time and effort were his offerings to the world, and he gave generously to all who needed a helping hand, an uplifting word or someone to help chase away the loneliness that sometimes rested in the hearts of others.
The greatest love of his life was his mother Lucy Jane, whom he openly gave his respect and love to unconditionally, and she in return devoted her life to being her son’s mother till her last breath. Lucy Jane was revered as being one of the best bread makers, and this is how she provided for her children, and right alongside her during early mornings you would find her sons beside her preparing the bread to be cooked for the day, along with a humble meal to feed their little family.
One of the best times the brothers shared with each other was watching TV together, they became so animated and laughed over every little detail in the show. Many things pass through siblings but for this little group it was just being together enjoying a normal event in life such as eating, teasing, watching TV, or cruising, it was their way of telling each other they were loved.
James “Togo” was preceded in death by his parents Alfred P. Lizotte Sr., Lucy Jane Iron Thunder, brother Alfred Lizotte Jr., niece Amber Buckles, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
James “Togo” is survived by his brothers Meade Lizotte, Terrance Dolzelick, niece LaFaye Lizotte, Terise Dolzelick, nephews Joseph Dolzelick, Terrance Dolzelick, Jordan Lizotte, and grandson Kashtin Lizotte, and numerous Maternal and Paternal Cousins.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Poplar. Cremation will follow the viewing.

Togo was my friend for a very long time and when I got my pool table he would come over and visit and shoot pool all afternoon. Little did they know he was educated and a computer whiz a computer technician he was. Heck we teased so much playing pool and we would laugh like crazy when we got scored on by each other. Fly high BROTHER no one can stop you now. Check in once in a while in my dreams we can still talk. Gonna miss you BRO.
