John Gerald Weeks
Tatanga Ska Wica
February 13, 1950 – February 17, 2024
Our brothers John “Big John” Weeks, 74, sadly left us on Saturday, February 17, 2024. John had just returned home after attending his two of his favorite pastimes – basketball and bingo.
John was the sixth of twelve children born to Lillian DeLong Weeks and William Weeks, Jr., joining sisters, Josephine “Jody” Neutgenz, Dorothy “Dot” Balbinot, Jacqueline “Jackie” Weeks, and Rita Weeks; brothers, Albert Dennis “Sonny” Lambert, Gary Farnsworth, William “Willie” Weeks III, David Weeks, Thomas Weeks, Robert James Weeks, and Wayne Weeks.
John grew up and attended school in Wolf Point, graduating with the Class of 1969. John and his best friend and brother Willie were active in track, football, and basketball. The most notable was being on the winning team of the “Big 32” state championship in 1968.
John went on to play basketball at Dawson Community College and Western Montana College, enlisting in the United States Army in 1973. John left a legacy across the State of Montana and a variety of other states he frequented in his travels. His greatest pride and joy was watching his nephews and nieces play sports. You could always find him at their games, cheering them on. John had this uncanny memory where he could recall scores and statistics of who made what point, when, and in what game or team for the past 60 years.
John served his community and Tribes as a founding member of WPCO, Board member and officer of Silverwolf Casino, and as a four-term Seargant-at-Arms of the Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board.
Big John’s presence at WPHS cheering his Wolves on and playing bingo at Silverwolf will be missed.
We love you Big John, you’ve left a big void in our hearts. Until we meet again – your brothers, Sonny, David, Tom and Wayne; your sisters, Rita, Linda, and Lois; your nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

My condolences go out to Big Johns family. Seems so unreal, I just saw you cheering on the BB players at the Wolf Den. Didn’t matter who was playing as long as it was a good game. Win or lose you were an avid WP Wolf fan. Your presence at the WP Gym and the Bingo Hall will defiantly be missed. Time to celebrate with your loved ones on the other side. Rest in Paradise Big John.

Rest in Peace Cousin, you were our guardian when we first moved to Poplar in 1962. You and Wayne Martell used to come to our house and we would go swimming in the Poplar River by the park all day. Come back hungry and grey from dried sand. I remember how proud I was of you when you were the leading scorer in the nation for Dawson College. Big John you were always a humble, kind gentle giant. It was nice visiting with you when you were the Sgt. At Arms. You will be missed for your knowledge of the oil industry and all the ideas you had in your head about how our tribe could do so much more when it came to industry. Say hello to all the ones who have gone beyond the veil. We will one day see you on the other side.

My husband Steve played Basketball with John and his brother Willie when they won the 1968 Big 32 championship. He often shared how they got into the championship game by beating Great Falls in a triple overtime. Quite an achievement for a small town. He enjoyed playing with Willie and Big John as he was called. Sad, they are all three gone now! Condolences to John’s family!

To all the family members of ” Big John Weeks”, a final Dear John letter:
Dear John,
Who will be the purveyor of sports stats now? When I was a sophomore on the 1968-1969 Wolves basketball team, and we rode the bus twice a week to Poplar, I was constantly amazed at your uncanny ability to remember and recite scores, player stats, team standings, and anything topical in any sport. You were informative and proficeient in global events, too. Thank you for always being a kind and helpful mentor to those of us underclassmen who were fortunate to have been your teammates. You were never a bully and never condescending. Your humility, welcoming good nature, and humor could not be diminished by your impressive physical stature. You will live on in legend and Wolves lore. Our heavely Father welcomes you, along with your beloved parents and siblings to your forever home. Pray for and look after those of us who someday hope to join you at the heavenly eternal banquet. 🙏 R.I.P., BIG JOHN!

My grandma’s Florence’s, Auntie Dorothy and My Dad Victor Sonny Beaudrys old neighbor next door back in the day. As my Dad once said their raising Giants next door. Big John was a kind man and well respected. When he came up here to visit years ago he was looked at in awe of how huge he was and his heart was bigger than most in more ways than one. May God rest your soul in peace. From the Beaudry Family up north.

RIP John. You were always such a humble sweet giant. Wolf Point and MT will never forget our 1968 Victory that brought our town and the Weeks brothers state wide notoriety. The comradeship of everyone having so much fun lives on. Now you can run and shoot with a lot of the team that went home before you. I will always have so much admiration for you and for your whole family, all beautiful people. Now I send my sympathies and love.

Big John, I always remember you from when the High School burned down and you all took over our school on South side… You were in the paper standing over the drinking fountain looking down as it was lower than your knees…lol. To bring home the State championship trophy to be the first in your new school. And to always see you around here and there especially Albertsons and always giving a short chat as you moved up and down the skinny aisles. Never let anything stop you from your daily duties. Always a good man along the way. Rest in peace big man.
