LaVerne Denise Gibbs, age 59, went home with the Lord on July 19th at 12:30 a.m. after a brief stay in the comfort room at the Poplar Hospital. She was diagnosed with rectal cancer August 7, 2021.
LaVerne was born to Imogene R. Gibbs and Verne E. Gibbs on December 27, 1963. She joined 3 sisters, Georgia Gibbs Atkinson, Roxane Gibbs, Carlene Gibbs Ferguson of the family home.
LaVerne attended Poplar public schools. She graduated in 1982. LaVerne went to Eastern Montana College until our dad Verne E. Gibbs passed in early December of 1984. LaVerne worked for Georgia and Tom Atkinson for 38 years at TJ’s Quik Stop where she made many life-long friends she considered family, Diane LaRoche, Claudia Scott, Rachel White Hawk, Carole Red Eagle, Kenda Steum, and Preston Redraza.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her mother Imogene R. Gibbs and her father Verne E. Gibbs; her niece Tammy Jay Atkinson-Buckles; nephews Verne Robert Atkison, Paul Jay Atkinson, Timmy Jason Atkinson.
She is survived by her sister Georgia Gibbs-Atkinson (Tom), Carlene Gibbs-Ferguson; nephews Tom Atkinson, Jr (Missy), Gracie Atkinson, Gaby Atkinson, Lola Atkinson, Grayson Atkinson, Bo Wiley Ferguson, Weylia Ferguson, Lovehya Ferguson, Justin Ferguson, Chimerri Lester, Kaycee Ferguson, Trever Ferguson, Myles Ferguson, Davin (Smiley) Gibbs, Tyrell Atkinson-Buckles, Alysha (Eya) Atkinson-Buckles (IronLance), Kaidynz, Inez (Buckshot), Emmy, Tameya, Reina; niece Cassie Jo Gibbs, Lita (alec) WhiteTail Feather, Eli Gibbs.

To Georgia and the Gibbs family, I Have been friends with the Gibbs family since we first moved to Poplar in 1964.
Verne was my boss at IHS and like Verne, LaVerne was crazy just like him. Always had a friendly hello when I ran into her at TJs or downtown. God Bless the family.
