Marcella Skindlov Dethman, 95, died July 12, 2012, in San Diego, CA.
Marcella was born to Rev. Anders Mathias Skindlov and Olea Bjorneby Skindlov on May 30, 1917, in Spokane, Washington. She was the fifth of nine children.
Marcella taught first grade for three years in Wolf Point, MT. There she met Peter Dethman. They married on August 20, 1943 while Peter
was in the army and they returned to Wolf Point after the war.
In 1949 Marcie and Pete moved to their farm in Roosevelt County, MT to raise wheat and to raise their children Susan and Stephen. Each fall, the family moved from the farm to Wolf Point for the school year. Beginning in the 1970s Marcie and Pete spent each winter in Mesa, AZ, returning to the farm every spring for the crop season. Throughout her life, Marcella was very devoted to her parents and her sisters and brothers. She baked wonderful pies and was an avid correspondent who loved to send and receive cards and letters.
In 2002, Marcie and Pete moved to Westpark Village senior community in Billings, MT. After Peter’s death in 2006, Marcella moved to San Diego, CA near her daughter. To celebrate her 90th birthday, she visited Norway and spent time with her father’s relatives, including those still living on the Skinlo farm near Nordfjord.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Peter and her son Stephen. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Jerome) Neumeyer of San Diego, and in Montana by daughter in law Donna (Dahlberg) Dethman, grandson Andrew (Jaimie) Dethman, and great grandchildren Mackenzie, Sydney, and Mason Dethman. Marcella is also survived by one sister, Doris Hollimon of Minneapolis, and by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Greg Holler-Dinsmore of First Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 15, at 10:30 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point, MT. A light lunch will be served in the church hall after the service.
