Marilyn Marty Dillon was born in Louisa, Kentucky on July 11, 1953 to Jesse and Nancy Bowen. Marty spent her early years in the hills of West Virginia with her siblings Jessy and Ricky; as she was a hillbilly and was very proud of it. Marty moved around various places after her schooling until she ended up in Wolf Point, Montana where she met her future husband, James through his father Chod. They were married in 1978 in Wolf Point and then moved to Cheney, Washington until James finished his college education. In 1980, their first son, Chaz was born and they moved to Brockton, Montana. Marty then began work at A&S tribal industries. In 1982, their first daughter, Kari was born; and in 1987 came another daughter, Caitlin. Marty loved to cook as her delicious southern style recipes were the favorites of many in the community and she always had an open seat at her dinner table through the years. Marty was an avid sports fan and loved to watch her children participate for the Brockton Warriors; and was die hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Reds. In the 1990s Marty began to manage the B&S Quick Stop where her office door was open to the community for laughs, trials, and tribulations; all while harassing farmers daily with her witty sense of humor. In her later years in life, Marty cherished being a grandmother to her grandsons, Chandler and Aca. Marty was a mother to many that were not her own children and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and for this she will be missed greatly by many. Marty formed many family relationships in the Brockton community including The Nygard’s, Lambert’s, Spotted Bird’s, Bighorn’s, Johnson’s, & Belgrade’s.
Marty was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Jessy; a sister, Yvonne; her parents in-law, Jean and Chod; Special friend, Mariah Burshia; adopted son, Sean Bighorn.
She is survived by her husband, James; her son, Chaz; daughter, Kari (Chase); daughter, Caitlin (Dan); grandsons, Chandler and Aca, Jarid, Eli, Mateo; sister, Jessy; nephews, Jessie, Clayton of Oakland, California; brother, Ricky (Shannon); niece, Christy of Roanoke Virginia; sister-in-law, Shannon Dillon; nephew, Jason; niece, Jenny of Washington; niece, Dee Vickers of Tacoma, Washington; adopted sons, Joseph Chase Sr. of Newtown, North Dakota and Adrian Spotted Bird Jr. of Poplar Montana.

I loved working with you at A&S Tribal Industries. Besides being a trustworthy and hard worker, we all loved your sense of humor. I still remember you saying “Fa Fa Swaba” for the first time. Translations was something like this: “Mess around, mess around and pretty soon we will all be gone.” Only she was not so gentle with her words. She is missed by so many.

Marty was a person eager to make friends. Her love for people made her a great ambassador for the Brockton community and B and S Quickstop. The Brockton School lost a true Warrior fan and she was a strong supporter of her town school. She was willing to help out and . showed her pride in the the school. Marty and Principal Jim Dillon have treated people and students with respect and had the time to listen to others in times of stress. Brockton and friends will truly miss Marty Dillon!

Marty was a kind soul. She brought laughter and joy when entering her home. She was by far the best cook this side of the Mississippi one might say. I will miss her stories of past when she was growing up and moving into NE Montana. I will always see her as a mother figure, a friend, and the best dang cook one can only hope to run across in NE MT. My condolences to my adopted family Chazz, Keri, and Ubu. Your mom was the best hands down.

I’m not entirely sure how I found this obituary, but somehow I was led to it. My condolences to Marty’s family, especially Jim. I knew both of you when we were all young, and I know how much you and Marty loved each other. Even though I haven’t seen Marty in probably 40 years, she had a very memorable impact on my life. I met Marty when she moved to Wolf Point, fresh off the bus from West Virginia. She was a tiny little woman with a larger than life personality. The photo here was exactly how she looked when I met her. She was fun, gregarious and always had a wise crack for everyone. She came to Wolf Point to work at the Pine Cone restaurant, where I, having just graduated from high school, happened to be working. We were both newcomers to Wolf Point and she became like my older sister that I never had. I was young and naive and she was beautiful and sophisticated. She taught me about life. Marty made work at the Pine Cone fun. She was with me the first time I went to a bar, had my first drink, had my first cigarette, and I never heard such colorful language from anyone before or since. 😉 She had such enthusiasm and zest for life. I was the maid of honor at Marty’s wedding to Jim. I remember watching Jim’s sister dance so beautifully with their father when bands played at the Sherman. Thanks for so many good memories, Rest in grace and love, my friend, and may your soul find peace.
