Monroe Irvin Bartel, passed from this life into the presence of Jesus at Faith Lutheran Home on December 15, 2021, just 34 days short of his 99th birthday. Along with his twin brother, Marvin, he was born into the homesteading family of Cornelius and Martha Bartel on January 18, 1923. A neighbor lady, Mrs. Bill Nickel, assisted in the birth at the Bartel home. Before moving to the Faith Home, Monroe lived his entire life on the farm. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Martha; three brothers, Clarence, Marvin, and James (a stillborn baby); and two sisters, Hilda and Evelyn. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Wilma; three children, Marlin Bartel, of Wolf Point, Montana, Rynette Olson (Carey) of Valparaiso, Florida, and Jeral Bartel (Tammy) of Cody, Wyoming; five grandchildren, Seth Olson (Jennifer), Benjamin Olson, Rachel Garman (Joel), Erin Bartel, and Evan Bartel; and six great-grandchildren, Ellie, Avery, and Mackenzie Olson, and Ada, Theodore, and Cyrus Garman.
Monroe’s home church was Bethel Mennonite Church, located 20 miles north of Wolf Point, along Hwy 250, until the church closed its doors in 2005. It was at Bethel that he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and was baptized, and he served as a bible teacher and church leader there for many years. After the church closed, Monroe and Wilma worshiped at Gospel Fellowship in Wolf Point. During his later years, Monroe’s health became more fragile but his trust in the Lord was unwavering. All praise, honor and thanks be to God for Monroe’s life.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15
