A TRIBUTE TO PATRICIA BIRD
IN 1972, Patty Bird was the Oil Princess. I was the Attendant. We originally were both Attendants to Pat Iron Cloud, who later resigned to get married. Patty was older and she moved up to be Oil Princess in 1972. And again in 1973.
Oil Discovery Celebration was huge back in those days. And being an Oil Princess was prestigious. Patty got to participate in Miss Indian America pageant in Sheridan, Wyo that year. She was picked to be an Honorary Attendant to The MIA Louise Edmo. I know she was very honored by that.
Patty was Miss Haskell University. She was an artist and her and her mom designed beautiful shawls and dresses, very unique. Patty had her own style of dancing. Patty was very elegant and graceful, smart and beautiful. She lived her life on her own terms.
In this picture is Patty and I, during the 72 Stampede. Go with God, Patty, you deserve to live in beauty.

My beautiful friend Patty, Sister, I must really be missing you because you came into my dreams last night. You were running with your dogs and your hair was flowing really long and you were young again. You just smiled your fabulous smile at me. I started crying and you hugged me and left. I love you Patty and you will certainly be missed. I loved traveling with you, laughing with you, praying with you, telling stories of our lives when we were young, going with you to your medical appointments, going to church with you, eating out with you and over at my home. I know you’ve been quite lonely for your Momma and Daddy lately. They were lonely for you too, so they came to take you to the land of our relatives. You will be in the presence of our Creator and one day, before we know it, we will all see you once again. I loved how you treated the Fort Peck Tribes Executive Council and you were always sharing your goodies. It was surely appreciated. I love your generosity to others, I loved how you treated me and most of all, I loved how you treated your fur Babies. We will see one another again, on the other side of the Moon. Missing you this day, my loving Sister…
My condolences to my baby Sister Angie Toce for getting everything just perfect for you. Hugs. My condolences to all your relatives…which are many. Love you all, Grandma Patt
