Shirley Rae Smith, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Wife, age 74 died early Saturday morning January 26, 2019 in her home surrounded with love.
Shirley was born January 30, 1944 in Bozeman to Bernadine Werner-Zindler and Gottlieb Daniel Zindler. Shirley graduated from Bozeman High School class of ’62, then moved to Poplar worked as a waitress and met Raymond David Smith and soon married and started their family. During her life she worked at Farmers Elevator and Farmers Union Oil in Poplar as a secretary, and had a carpentry business with her friend Maxine. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, was a good painter, and did many other crafts that she enjoyed giving to friends and family. Shirley loved teaching her crafts to family members willing to learn. She especially enjoyed crafting her one of a kind Christmas ornaments every year.
Shirley is survived by husband Ray; sons Robert (Roxann), Rick (Jane); sister Sandy Sarras (Steve) of California; brothers Mike Watt (Katy) of Oregon, Jerry Zindler, and very special grandsons Raymond and Jordan Smith, Sean Big Horn (Robert, Roxann), Evan Ziber (Rick, Jane), numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Gottlieb and Bernadine; sister Patty Smith (Bill), Colleen Watt Antonine (Chuck).
