Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and our hero Stonehail Thomas Moccasin (Iya wasu) began his journey on the morning of August 26, 2023.
Stone hail was born on April 20, 2005 at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, MT to John Moccasin and Dessie Bruce. At birth his late grandpa Ronn gave him his Indian name, Iya wasu (Stonehail) named after his great, great, great-grandfather’s Bluehail and Stonewall Jackson. Stonehail was bestowed another Indian name, Wȋchōka Wãsté Wíchā (The man who does good deeds) by Mike Turcotte. Stonehail is a member of the Red Bottom Hudesana Assiniboine Clan and Turtle Mountain Chippewa on his maternal side. Also, a descendant and child of Towering House and Bitterwater Clans of the Navajo Tribe on his paternal side.
Stonehail started his schooling in Frazer, MT from head start to elementary until his family moved to Wolf Point in 2011 and continued his education. In May of 2023 he graduated from Wolf Point H.S. “Class of 2023”. He started his employment with Albertson’s in Wolf Point (while still going to school) as a cashier and service clerk. His aspiration was to join the Army National Guard after graduation or become a Homeland Security to be a rescuer and help people. Stonehail was an easy-going person although very quiet. Always helpful to lend a hand without being asked. His past times were hanging out with his brothers and friends playing X-box games or skateboarding at the skate park and listening to a variety of his favorite music. He was an avid Ohio State and Denver Broncos fan. He loved watching UFC wrestling and boxing with his dad.
Stonhail is survived by his parents, John and Dessie; his brothers Sagebear Moccasin, Samuel (Arielle) Moccasin of Wolf Point, Marc Lowery of Reno, NV; sisters Shailyn and Sarah Moccasin of Wolf Point; grandmothers Ethelyn Moccasin of Frazer and Mary Melody Billy of Wolf Point; uncles T.C. (Tiann) Billy of Wolf Point, Elmer (Norma) Flying horse of Mandaree, ND; aunts Violet (J.J.) Bruce of Seattle, WA, Ronetta Moccasin of Frazer and many numerous relatives.
He is preceded in death by grandpas Ronadl Dean Moccasin, Sr., Harvey Robert Bruce and T.K. Billy; little sister Cameron Flying Horse; uncle Ronald D. Moccasin, Jr. and other relatives that had welcomed him home with open arms.
