Angela Marie (Dougherty) Loendorf passed away July 31st in Billings, MT, at the age of 92. Angela was born on June 19, 1921, in Wolf Point, MT, to Phillip and Margaret (Latterell) and was the fourth of nine children.
Angela graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1939, and five days after graduation enrolled in The Presentation Sisters School of Nursing in Miles City, MT. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1942.
Angela worked at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point before she joined her four brothers and enlisted in the armed services. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp and was first stationed at Ft. Lewis, OR, before being shipped overseas to the European Theater. She was stationed with the 10th Field Hospital for about one month before her assignment with the 132nd Evacuation Hospital. She did state that at one point they had to “pack up” and retreat before continuing to advance during the Battle of the Bulge. It was during her assignment that she was trained to give anesthesia. She was honorably discharged as a 1st Lt in 1946 in Ft. Des Moines, Iowa.
After the war, Angela continued her anesthesia studies at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and graduated in 1949 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She was working in Billings at Deaconess Hospital when she met Albert. They married on Oct. 30th, 1950, in Wolf Point. They lived on the family farm north of Vida and had two sons, Alan and Arthur. She worked occasionally as a nurse, but devoted most of her time to being a farmer’s wife and mother. Angela taught Sunday school at St. Ann’s and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Vida Homemaking Farmerettes. Angela returned to work in the late 60’s being the anesthetist for Drs. Borge, Knapp, and Listerud in Wolf Point. She retired in 1985.
In 1995 she and Albert moved into Wolf Point and in 2001 moved to Great Falls to be closer to medical services. In November 2003 Angela and Albert moved to Glendive so Albert could live at the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home. While in Glendive, Angela kept active by playing bridge, was a member of the Newcomer’s Club, the Gardening Club, Catholic Daughters, and had served as a director of RSVP. Angela and Albert bowled for many years on leagues and she also loved to play bridge, garden, and bake until all hours of the night for her family and friends. She taught her granddaughters to bake, sew, play cards, do crafts, and have patience.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Alan Loendorf of Miles City, and Arthur (Sandra) Loendorf of Billings. She is also survived by her much beloved granddaughters Venissa and Jacqueline, also of Billings.
Also surviving is a special brother-in-law, Ray Ogoley of Coos Bay, OR, and sister-in-law Marie “Tudi” Dougherty of Whittier, CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 54 years, Albert; brothers Eugene (Lefty), DeVere, Bernard, and Norbert (Doc) Dougherty; sisters Cecelia McCoy, Margaret Guadarama, Alice Van Dyke, and Kathleen (Katie) Ogoley.

Deepest sympathy to the Loendorf family. We got to know Angela through Sacred Heart Church in Glendive. Angela became our prayer chain contact and we so enjoyed our telephone visits with her each time she called. What a lovely lady! She became a part of our church and Glendive, especially the Senior Center, where many called her friend. We were sad when she moved to Billings. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May she find eternal rest!
