Charlene “Charley” Walking Eagle-Youpee, age 41, of Poplar, MT passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.
Charlene was born on October 12, 1977 to Donald Walking Eagle Jr. and Veronica Firemoon. At four months old she was adopted by her Aunt Kathleen “Tiny” Ricker. She attended Poplar schools and Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon. She graduated from Poplar High School in May of 1996. On March 8, 2002 she married Bernard Youpee. Charlene worked for the Fort Peck Tribes HeadStart Program in Poplar. Her hobbies included visiting her family and friends, taking care of her dogs Layla, Toby, Baby, and Norman. She loved being with her husband Bernard. Charlene was always telling jokes and sharing a laugh. Her smile will be greatly missed.
Charlene is survived by her husband, best friend and love of her life, Bernard Youpee of Poplar; her father Donald Walking Eagle Jr. of Poplar and birth mother Veronica Firemoon of Frazer; brother Emmett (Rikki) Buckles III of Poplar; sisters Jeri Ann (Scott) Kirn & Lydania (Dwayne) Hagadone, both of Poplar; sister Stacey Pipe of Billings, MT and sisters Summer, Janeen Beston, Molly, and Tanya Firemoon.
Charlene is also survived by her Grandfather George (Helen) Ricker; Aunts Debbie Walking Eagle; Patsy (Bud) Two Bulls; Junia (Wayne) Jones; Great Aunt Millie Salveson; Uncle George (Beverly) Walking Eagle, all of Poplar and Uncle Alfred Walking Eagle of Oregon. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Jordan Spotted Wolf, Anthony, Annie, Danica, Theron, Shawna, Taime, Kiara, Kim, Josephine, David, Kelan, Kya, Piper, Ashlynn and close friend Dorrit Eagle-Venter.
Charlene is preceded in death by her adopted Mother Kathleen “Tiny” Ricker; paternal grandparents Donald Walking Eagle Sr. and Ida Ricker Walking Eagle; Aunt Irene Walking Eagle; niece Melissa Buckles; cousins Jonna Spotted Bird & Claytina Whiteman; nephews Dwain Spotted Bird Jr., and John LaSarte.

Bernard, I am so sorry for your loss. Charley and I had fun working together at Head Start and kept that special connection. Loved her smile and how it carried to her eyes, even with all the challenges she had w/ her health. She has a special place in my heart! May your special memories help you through this sad time.
