Our loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin, Daniel Lee (Speed)Renz, Jr. (DJ) age 22, passed away at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, MT and went to join the angels on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.
DJ was born on July 29, 1990 to Daniel Renz, Sr. and Justine Shields in Poplar, MT. He attended schools in Poplar, Malta and Wolf Point. He was a kind and respectful young man and was loved by all who knew him. He liked basketball and played for a short time. He also liked to listen to his Rap music. At age 17, a tumor was found in his lungs, he went through extensive surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which took a toll on him. Even through all this, he remained cheerful and respectful. Though we loved him dearly, there is one thing that consoles us he is finally free from the pain and suffering he endured. He can now rest in peace beside his grandpa Harold.

DJ – I can’t even begin to comprehend the fact that you are gone 🙁 The last time I saw you at Town Pump will forever be etched in my memory – the hug you gave me and the assurance that you were alright even though I knew you were in constant pain. Your illness these past five years had been on my mind daily – and I always said a special prayer for you. You were strong and courageous my nephew – right up to the end. I had a hard time accepting your illness and why one so young would have to struggle with something so vicious. I keep reminding myself that you are no longer in pain but it doesn’t ease the hurt my heart feels. I love you nephew and our family has been blessed because you are a part of us. Forever missing and loving you.

I just found out about my Uncle Butch’s passing tonight. I looked to the internet to find out more about my uncle and how he passed, only to find the sorrow of another family member that I don’t even know. I know that I am far away, but my roots started in Wolf Point, Montana. I am truly sorry for the loss of your son.
Respectfully,
Jody Shields Sanders

Im sorry to hear about the families loss. I looked up my birth mother, Justine Shields, online. I found out that I had a brother who passed away recently. I dont know any of my siblings from there. I live in Apache, Oklahoma with my adoptive parents, Donald & Jackie Ricker. We don’t visit often so I really don’t know my Poplar/Wolf Point Family. I know the family is in pain and my prayers are with yall.
Sincerely,
Tiauna Rose Ricker
