Dave was born September 11, 1949 in Miles City, to Gottlieb and Ruth Wemmer. He lived on the family ranch at Hillside helping with the raising of sheep and cattle. He attended grade school at Hillside then went to Miles City for High School and graduated in 1968. He attended Miles Community College getting an Associate degree in automotive. When asked to fix a car he would admit that he didn’t know how because he would sleep under the cars during class.
He met his best friend and love of his life Bonnie on a blind date in 1970. They got married in Forsyth, on October 14, 1971. From there they had two children, Paul and Janice.
While attending college he started work at Peavey elevator at the age of 19 to help his mother after his father passed. He started at the feed plant making pellets and blocks, eventually becoming a salesman. This was the start of working for the same company for 49 years, although it changed hands three times. He moved his family in 1979 to Wolf Point where he was offered a job as an assistant manager under Dick Barsness. Where he learned the trades of grain buying and marketing, Dave eventually became the manager after Dick transferred. All of his customers became his good friends. He would work long hours at the elevator, dumping trucks and loading trains. He was so proud that they were able to dump 7 million bushels within a year, in 2001.
After retiring he enjoyed helping local farmers planting and combining. Dave volunteered for the Wolf Point Federal Credit Union board, Roosevelt County Salary board, Wolf Point Stampede, working at Just Dine-It (making amazing pies especially apple, and cutting prime rib on prime rib night). He also served as an Elks Member.
Dave took pride in his yard and gardening. He enjoyed reading western books, camping, hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Dave enjoyed get togethers, family reunions, trips to Vegas, and a good visit with friends and family. Dave was never at a loss with words and very opinionated and wasn’t afraid to tell ya what he thought. His favorite words WORK WORK WORK!
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 49 years, son Paul (Sharon), daughter Janice (Wayne), grandchildren Trenton, Demi, Chaz, Taylor, adopted grandchildren Austyn and Abby, and four great grandchildren, brothers Gerome (Rita), Robert, sisters Ruth Anne, Pearl, Joan, sister-in-law Diana, brother-in-laws David, and Darrell.
Preceded in death by his parents Gottlieb and Ruth, brother Martin, sister Carol, father/mother-in-law Bill and Betty, brother-in-laws Larry, Glenn, Randy, Don, and sister-in-law Cherri.

My heartfelt sympathies to Dave’s family. I first met Dave in 1980 shortly after being transferred to Montana by the Peavey Company as the regional grain merchandiser. I knew in short order that if I wanted to succeed in my position that I wanted to hear Dave’s thoughts. He told you what he thought in no uncertain terms even if he knew you didn’t want hear it. I saw someone’s comments above “work work work”. Oh so true! I left Peavey a few years later and tried to hire Dave two or three times, he would never let me get to the point of offering him more money than he was making. He was old school loyal to his employer, I respected him for this among so many other things. Years later I was talking to the head of the entire grain division of Gavilon, he relayed a Dave story to me. The company had a grain meeting at the corporate HQ, the notice of the meeting said dress was business causal. Dave was talking with his boss and inquired exactly what did that mean. He was told khaki pants and a causal shirt, he replied “I have never owned a pair of khakis I wear blue jeans”. Dave was sitting at the grain general manager’s desk, blue jeans, pearl button shirt, and horse hair belt hanging. Dave left to go into a meeting another Gavilon executive came over an asked who was that hayseed. The head of grains said “the best damn country elevator manager that this or any other grain company has anywhere.” I was a better person for having known Dave. God Bless him and his loved ones.
