ELY MAGNAN, 22, born October 11, 1990 in Wolf Point, MT. passed away on April 28, 2013 in Wolf Point, MT.
Ely had many friends that loved him dearly. Three of those were very close to him; John Bauer, Tyrone Darnell and Lester Menz. If you ever saw Ely cruising around at least one of these three boys were with. But we know he will be greatly missed by ALL his friends. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was known to go out of his way to help you in any way he could. He was a man with a “Heart of Gold.”
Ely enjoyed playing video games, wrestling with his brothers and sister, cruising around on his mom’s car whenever he could talk her into letting him use it, that is, and traveling. There was one trip in particular that he really enjoyed. That was when his mom took him and a couple other family members to Scarywood in Coeur D’ alene, ID. To celebrate his 22 birthday. He didn’t expect to enjoy himself as much as he did and he actually got a little spooked in the “Trail of Terror.”
Ely attended school in Wolf Point up until mid-senior year which was when he moved to Trenton, ND with his grandmother. This is where he graduated high school in May 2009. He signed up for the Army early in his senior year with a Combat Engineer M.O.S. After graduation he left to Basic Training and A.I.T. in Fort Leonardwood, MO.When he returned after A.I.T. in September, 2009, his family noticed a big change in him, He left as a boy and came back a “man.” He was stationed in Fort Wainright, Alaska. In May, 2011 he was deployed to Afghanistan for 12 – 13 months then returned to Fort Wainright until his three years were up in September 2012.
Ely was never one to be too proud but when he returned from Afghanistan and the Army he knew he had accomplished something that he and his family were proud of. He was now a “Warrior” and in that, he took great pride. Ely had formed a special bond with his older brother, DJ, who also was in the Army earlier and was deployed to Iraq. He also made a special brotherly-like bond with some of his Army buddies. Two of which are also here as his Pallbearers; RaLeigh Roberts of Vernal, UT and Collin Pugh of Lecanto, FL.
Ely was a very respectful young man. He loved his family with all his heart. He was an honest, loyal person and took pride in his physical appearance.
We know that Ely will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of being a part of his life.
He is preceeded in death by his maternal grandfather; Melvin “Jittawee” Hall, maternal grandmother; Josephine “Josie” Hall; paternal grandfather, James “Jimmy” Magnan, paternal uncle; Jimmy Joe Magnan and many others too numerous.

It seems like even after these 4 1/2 years of you being gone, it still hurts like crazy. I will always hurt and feel this grief, probably for the rest of my life till I see you again but I still try to be strong for your brothers and sisters and keep from showing my pain in front of them.
You were a huge loss in our family and we have been holding strong but at times even the strongest fail to keep that grief from breaking us down into a pile of bawling, grief-stricken pain. I, for one am that way at times in each year especially around your birthdays or your angelversaries.
We all will miss and love you forever my son. You were the one who we could always count on when all else failed. You did accomplish that dream of making me proud of you, as you hoped for. I would have always been proud of you no matter what you did in life, whether it be a combat engineer in the Army like you became or just a janitor for the hospital or bartender. You always strived to do your best at whatever life put in front of you. You were a huge role model to your little brother James and your little sister Harmoni too.
Always know that you are never forgotten and never will be forgotten.
We were and are very proud of you Ely.
Love you forever, your mom, Monica C.
