Emma Mae Groat passed away peacefully at the Faith Lutheran Home on October 28, 2021 at 2:20 p.m. surrounded by her loving family.
Emma was born on February 16, 1943 in Poplar, Montana to Nida Marie Kennedy and Chill Firemoon. She was later adopted and raised by Otto Cantrell, Sr., her stepfather.
She married Warren Phillip Dever in 1963. They met while he served in the U.S. Airforce at the Glasgow, Montana Air Force Base. She lived in Divine, California all her life, while her husband worked as an aviation technician for major airlines. They later divorced. She met and married Robert “Bob” Groat and raised their two children, Allen James and Dawna Lee, in California.
While in California, Emma worked as a quality control inspector for an aviation electronics firm near Ojai where they installed components for Tomahawk missiles. For enjoyment, Emma rode her Harley. She was in many biker clubs and enjoyed riding with Bob. Emma was a great mother, auntie, sister, and grandmother.
Emma and Bob traveled to Montana several times and finally stayed for good where they resided in Wolf Point. Emma worked for A&S Industries for a short time, as well as Town Pump until retiring.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Nida Cantrell; husband, Bob; her daughters, Emily and Roseanne; infant son, Tommy; brothers, David and Richard Cantrell.
She is survived by her son Allen Dever of Honolulu, Hawaii, and daughter, Dawna Lee Castro, of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Vivian Martin of Texas, Ida Rae Youngman of Poplar, Montana, Sylvia Cantrell of Poplar, Montana; and brothers, Otto Cantrell, Jr., of Wolf Point, Montana, Leonard Duncan of Rocky Boy, Montana, Arthur Reuben of Poplar, Montana, Virgil Cantrell of Newtown, North Dakota, and Newton Cantrell of Glendive, Montana.
A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences for the family can be left by using the form below.
