Joseph (John) Doney, Chande Washte Uhesh Wicha “Kind Hearted Man”, age 63, lost his battle with cancer and went with the Creator on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at his home in Wiota, Montana. John was born on July 12, 1952 to Thomas and Rose (Shyface) Doney of Wiota, Montana.
John grew up on the family homestead where he loved to farm and ranch. John attended school in Nashua, MT, Stephan, SD where he was also South Dakota Golden Glove boxing champion, and graduated in Frazer, MT.
After graduation John took up working as a house mover and did many odd jobs for local farmers and ranchers. He then met and married the love of his life Cheryl Jackson of Frazer, MT. John spent the next forty years providing a great life for his soul mate and his three children, Norina Sibley, Doral Sibley, and Johnny Dale Doney, Sr.
John worked many years for BIA in many capacities such as truck driver, heavy equipment operator, pavement plant operator, and crushing gravel. John also lent his expertise to many other companies such as I.R.R., Fisher Industries, and many more. A special and fun time for John was when he was working and teaching his son Johnny, son-in-law Roger and grandson Zane on local jobs.
Anyone who spent time with John knew that they were in for a great, sometimes very embellished story. We all knew that we needed to check John’s sources of gossip as he most often added some “John Doney” details to it, or just heard it completely wrong. John loved to have a good visit and laugh with his family and friends. Johns’s spirit of fun was to haggle car salesmen or to lead on the telemarketer that was unfortunate enough to call his phone. John also enjoyed the nightly TV as he put it, and giving the grand kids and pets odd little nicknames. Through all his joking and kidding, john always gave sound advice to the young people of his family and never passed up a chance to teach them.
John know that you are loved and you will always be cherished by all of us.
Joseph (John) T. Doney is preceded in death by his father Thomas Doney, mother Rose (Shyface) Doney, brother James Doney, sister Mary Alice Redman, sister Marian Doney, father-in-law Wilson Jackson, mother-in-law Josephine Jackson, sister-in-law’s Pearl Bird, Marilyn Steele, and Farrel Strahs, brother-in-law’s Maynard Jackson, Darrel Jackson, Sidney Bird, Lonnie Steele, and Phillip Smoker.

That’s terrible news. I worked with John in the early 2000 doing highway road construction on the Wind River Res. In Wy. He was a hard worker and good guy with lots of knowledge. When I first told him my name he got fired up and all happy and said your my close relation and said I really miss your dad. He told me some good stories and always had a joke for us each day. One day I got to the paver to check the asphalts temp and compaction… His arm was red and swollen with burns on it. There was 3 indentions in the asphalt and his partner Frenchy was really laughing. I asked what happened, and darned if big John was leaning over the railing of the paver and got bucked off. He was standing there smiling and explaining while Frenchy was laughing. They were crazy, fun, and very knowledgeable. Good guy. Sure is a tough loss for the family!
