Kara O’Lette Red Dog, age 47, of Poplar, MT passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012.
She was born on October 4, 1965 in Poplar, the daughter of Lawrence and Almena Red Dog. She attended schools in Poplar, Brockton, MT, St. Labre, MT, and in Washington. She received her G.E.D. in Poplar and attended the Fort Peck Community College in Poplar; where she received her A.A., Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree. She was working on obtaining a Doctorate degree. Kara also worked at A&S Tribal Industries and various other jobs.
Kara enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, spending time with her grandbabies, Temperance and Trevon. She loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and loved to swim with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Almeda Red Dog; brother, James Red Dog; and four sisters, Bonnie Youpee, Carol Carsillas, Pamela Red Dog, and Estelle Bear Cub.
Kara is survived by her children, Carrie Rinesmith, Corey Red Dog, Morgen Red Dog, Chanelle Red Dog all of Poplar; grandchildren, Trevon Rinesmith and Temperance Freemont; sisters, Doris Red Dog, Rhea (Ron) Star, Vearlene Red Dog, and Lauren (Darren) Red Dog all of Poplar; brothers, Richard Hawk of Levensworth, KS, Maynard Hawk of Poplar and Ron (Cynthia) Kills Plenty of Hedgesville, WV; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Friday, November 30 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Poplar.

aunty kara may your journey be swift as you wrer when you was out there dancing Indain. You soared like a beautiful butterfly hoovering over the ground as your wings expanded out toward the beyond. This is how pray your journey is and your reunited with the loved ones that have since passed on. I will always remember you when I was a little girl staying at grandma Almena and grandpa Lawrences house in Poplar, you was my idoil and I always wanted to learn how to float like a butterfly the way you did at pow-wows. You are very sweet n beautiful lady . Sitting here going down on memory. Lane when we went to cAmp n when we use to play at the play ground. N went we was at school n how u never let anyone hurt me n how you n your family all took me in when I ran away. From home !!!! I can see you running free with that beautiful smile no one can take your place. How we use to walk down to the pow wow n I sat thErE n watch u dance , we had fun went we was kids. Kara- I havent seen you since High School. We had some pretty crazy times. I wish we could have remained in touch. I will always remember you as a teenager crazy and free. Rest in peace friend.

It’s still hard to believe you’re gone 🙁 I’m so glad that I got to know you in the last few years. I’ll miss your calls, before I could even say hello you would say, “My Niece, this is your Auntie Kara..” haha. Even though I knew it was you because of caller id. I’ll always remember you wearing shorts, even in the bitter cold….you were one tough woman. I could talk to you about pretty much anything and for that, I’m grateful to have known you. rest easy Auntie. I’ll never forget you.
