Layne David Williams (Wi-Hinápa – Rising Sun), age 25, of Frazer, MT passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Billings Clinic.
Layne was born to Marlene and Yancey Beston on May 22, 1991 in Wolf Point, MT. He attended grade school at Frazer Elementary School, Jr high though his freshman year in Nashua. Layne finished his high school at Frazer High School and graduated in 2009. During his academic career Layne enjoyed playing basketball, football, and track & field. The fall of 2009 he attended Montana State University for a short time. He returned home and attended Fort Peck Community College a tad bit during this time and played basketball for the Buffalo Chasers. Layne worked for the Fort Peck Law and Justice Department as a Juvenile Detention Officer. He also worked construction. He worked for the Trinity Technology Group where he finally found his dream job, as a TSA Security Officer; where he had awesome co-workers and a great employer. He always said “This is the best job I could ever have and I really enjoy my job.”
Layne was a great son, brother, and friend with a heart of gold. He loved reading, writing, and playing video games with his brother a.k.a. Lil man. He also loved to camp, cruise his cars, swim, and go bowling. Layne could be found watching movies, playing video games, listening to music or just sitting visiting his family and friends. He was a joy to be around and always had a kind word for you. His smile could light up a room when he entered. If you needed help all you had to do was ask or seem to struggle and he was there to help.
Layne participated in the medicine lodge in which he danced, sweated, and practiced his native ways; as he is a member of the Red Bottom Clan (Hudešana).
Layne was preceded in death by his grandfather, Mike Hotomani; uncles, Joseph Beston Jr., and Ronald “Henry” Williams; special uncle, Roy Adams; and numerous relatives and his dog of 20 years, Soup.
He is survived by his maternal grandparents, Shirley A. Flynn and Ronald “Pete” Williams; special uncle, Melvin (Sonny) Flynn; aunts, Wanda Sibley, and Tena Bedwell; uncle Torrey Flynn; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Sharelene Beston; uncle, Darrell (Janeen) Beston; aunts, Shannon Beston; sisters, Vangie Beston, Fawn Beston, Adrienne Reddoor, and Shani Burshia; brothers, Ryan Beston, William Beston, and the most special brother, Kameron Beston “Lil man”; numerous cousins on both sides; adopted brothers, Aaron Murdock, Justin White, Jamie Beston, Jaylen Blount, Harlin Burshia, Styles Fisher, and Emmit Jackson. He is also survived by Reese Reddoor Family. If we left anybody out, it wasn’t intentional.
In closing, Layne was known to have a gold, kind, nurturing, and big heart. He was there to help all who needed it. Layne was known to be a very respectful young man. Layne left a big footprint on all hearts he touched.
A wake will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23 at the Community Hall in Frazer. A funeral service will be held 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, February 24 at the Frazer High School Gymnasium in Frazer. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Frazer. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I worked with Layne when he first started at the Air Port. I called him Jolly Green and he called me Hobbit. He was the kindest, most “gentle giant” I have ever known. I’m old and he always treated me with nothing but kindness and respect. Always willing to help me if something was too high or too heavy. I’m going to miss you Jolly Green. Your leaving has left my heart very heavy and sad. My condolences to the family. My heartfelt prayers are with you Layne. I will see you again someday, my friend.

I enjoyed watching Layne play football for Frazer, one game he was heading for the end zone with about four to five (half their team) players of the other team on his back trying to bring him down, it looked like four to five wolves trying to bring a buffalo, enjoyed watching him play, he will be missed.

I worked with Layne at the airport with Trinity Security Technology. He was a joy to be around with a broad smile that lit up the room. He was excellent at his job and helpful to all, including kindness to the passengers we serve. I’d get a chuckle out of his friendly verbal jabs between him and another great screener, Dayle DeCouteau.
Layne I will miss you, may your smile and blessed soul light up the sky’s of heaven. Peace be with you!

When I first moved to Montana, I was a college kid moving from across the country. I had no friends here in Bozeman. Layne opened his heart and was as kind to me as anyone has ever been. He had never met me and still. We had kept in touch over the years and I hoped I’d have regular visits from him. While Layne was not a small man, I still do not know how he fit all that kindness in his body. Those of us who knew him for the short time he was in Bozeman will cherish the time we had with him. We are devastated. I am devastated. He will truly be missed by both me and everybody else who knew him while he was here.

I feel very honored to have known Layne, and to work with him here at the airport. He was so easy going, and his smile always brightened my day! Layne had such a wonderful sense of humor, and was just fun to be around. I would ask him, “Layne, how many passengers/bags did we screen?”, his reply, “All of them”. That always made me laugh. Now when I wonder how many passengers or bags we screened during the flight, I hear in my head, “All of them”. Still makes me smile. We all miss him here, and talk about him daily. Marlene, Yancy, Kameron, and all his family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss….Layne was a great guy, and was taken much too early from this world. RIP Layne, you will always be in our hearts.
