Mavis Marie (Martell) Garcia, age 61, of Wolf Point, MT passed away on February 2, 2012 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.
Mavis, the daughter of Steve Martell and Amy Redstone, was born on December 2, 1950 in Poplar, MT. She was later adopted by Melvin Martell and Florence Iron Ring Martell. She obtained her GED in Chicago, IL and went on to be certified as a nurse’s aid and also as a welder on the Northern Border pipe line. She then worked at Trinity Hospital and the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point. Mavis was a member of the VFW Lady Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling.
Mavis is survived by her children, Melvin Martell of Wolf Point and Katy Abrams of San Francisco, Ca; sisters, Iris Balbinot and Karen Babcock both of Wolf Point and Melissa Martell of Medicine Lake, MT; brothers, Gary Martell of Wolf Point, Wayne Martell of Poplar, and Mike Martell of Medicine Lake; grandsons, Joshua, Lance, and Robert Martell all of Juneau, AK, and Dourado Lytle of San Francisco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Steve Martell and Amy Redstone; adopted parents, Melvin Martell and Florance Martell; sisters, Darlene Campbell, Bonnie Boyd Nelson and Myrna Boy Smallsalmon; brothers, Robert Hoenck, and Wayne Boyd.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, February 6 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 7 also at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the King Memorial Cemetery in Wolf Point.
