I have 2 stand out memories of Max. One was when we were visiting one time he kept asking Uncle Larry (my dad) to flush him down the toilet. My dad would play with him and pick him up and tip him upside down and say he was going to flush Max down the toilet. My second memory is when Noreen and I put curlers in Maxs’ hair.

Max–a man gone too soon but was ready when his time came. You are a treasure to all who knew you–the pranks, the love, the family/friendship bonds. May you rest in peace and smile down on us once in awhile. Like you said to me in 2004—“see you sooner or later(hopefully later than sooner”. Love–Baby Susie

To Max’s family, I offer my condolences.
I remember Max when he was a high school student and I was a teacher’s assistant at WPHS. We worked out together on occasion in the weight room…..back then he was a fine young gentleman, he was a kind, respectful, and a soft spoken individual.
I remember the time when Max was in high school: one night he was driving home from Poplar to WP. About a half mile past Tule Creek bridge/hill, there were cows on the road and it was pitch dark. The van in front of Max hit one of the cows and knocked into the path of Max’s car. Max hit the cow that was laying on the highway, Max veered into the ditch and rolled in the vehicle. I was in my vehicle right behind him and witnessed this, not knowing it was Max in the vehicle that rolled. When I approached Max in the vehicle that landed upright he was fine but he did get banged up a little. I remember Max looking at me with a stunned look and still gripping the steering wheel.
I realized it was him and asked if he was ok…he smiled at me with eyes as big as saucers we both started laughing.
I was happy for him when I heard that he was serving in the Navy after high school. It is a shame that I never connected with him while he was in San Diego and I was living in Los Angeles. I am so sorry to hear of Max’s passing. May God comfort your family during this time of sorrow.

My condolences to Max’s family. I spoke to him the day before he passed. He would often come into my office to chat. He was kind and gentle to a fault. Always concerned that he had the trainers up for the sailors and that they could find him if anything went wrong. I enjoyed our daily talks. I always made time to talk if he wanted to. I always said “Hi” and “Bye” each day. He will be sorely missed. God bless him.

Fair winds and following seas to someone I could call a friend, quick with wit and always looking at life positive, I will miss his calls. We had many good talks.
