Michael R. Peterson, 63, of Wolf Point passed away Monday, October 3, 2016.
Michael was born October 6, 1952 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Wilbur and Iris (Loader) Peterson. He grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Fort Collins, Colorado. At the age of 17, he learned flooring installation working for his brother, Ralph, laying carpet and tile. He also received his Water and Wastewater Certification.
He met Catherine Pepperl in Casper, Wyoming and the two were married in Fort Collins on August 16, 1980. They had two sons, James Michael and Jacob Matthew.
The family moved to Wolf Point in 1987, which would be Michael’s home for the next 29 years. He enjoyed his work at Buttrey Food, where he made many lifelong friends. Michael attended the Art Institute in Portland, Oregon and then began The Acorn Shop in Wolf Point, refinishing and reproducing antique furniture out of his home. The quality craftsmanship he provided was his greatest pride.
Michael had a great love for music. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting, fishing, shooting, and camping with his family. He was a huge Denver Broncos fan, and would never miss a game.
Although he had many hobbies and interests, his greatest passion in life was his family. His love for his wife, sons, and grandchildren was above all else.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Marion, and Wilbur “Pete”; and sisters, Twila and Phyllis.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; sons, James (Stephanie) Peterson of Belgrade, MT and Jacob (Jhona) Peterson of Wolf Point; grandchildren, Ryan and Adrienne; and brothers, John (Sandy) of WY and Ralph Peterson of NE.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 7 at Clayton-Stevenson Memorial Chapel, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

Cathy, James and Jacob….Our hearts go out to you and your families as we just heard of the loss of Michael. Words can not even begin to express our sorrow. May your memories give you peace and comfort through the days ahead. As much of a reality that death is a part of life it still is so hard. The hardest part is living without him. Draw strength from each other and know that God is with you all!
Caring thoughts and prayers are with all of you,
Dennis and Pam Benson
