Nicole Lynn Small passed away on January 20, 2019 in Billings, MT. She was born on a cold spring day on March 28, 1985 in Poplar, MT. The day she was born was one of the biggest blizzards we had seen for awhile. The tribes, IHS and many businesses were shut down that day.
Her parents Jerry and Arlene Small got stuck going to the hospital and had to walk 2 blocks to get a ride to the hospital in a Police 4-wheeler. Nicole was anxious to be born and came a couple hours later.
Nicole traveled with her family to the Flathead Reservation and she attended school there for 3 years while her parents attended Salish Kootenai College. She also moved with her family to Gallup, New Mexico and Bethel, Alaska while her mother was a nurse there.
When she was very little, Nicole called herself “Kiki Mall”. She was a very loving and generous girl who liked to tease and have fun.
She met Emery Good Bird when she was 20 years old and they had a son Marques Griffin Small. Four years later she met William Beaudry III and they had two sons, Liddell and Wade. Three years later she met Tom Flynn and she gave birth to Brandon Small.
Nicole graduated from the 8th grade at Brockton Jr. High, where she was a cheerleader and later passed her GED on the first try. She attended FPCC for awhile and enjoyed the computer classes. She enjoyed listening to music and hanging out with her friends and baking cakes with her mom. She loved her mom’s homemade tacos, rocky road ice cream and Oreos. She also loved to eat deer steaks with her dad and son Marques.
She recently went hunting with her dad and Marques and was proud of her son killing a buck on the first shot. She didn’t even mind that they got stuck for two hours while her dad shoveled them out. She was the phone wither mom giving a progress report.
Nicole did things her way and had a mind of her own, but always loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Pearl and Clarence “Tige” MacDonald, Norma and Chuck Plant and grandfather Pete Small; cousins Bobby MacDonald, Leo Saddleback, Andrew Lamb, Jeremiah Pipe, Horace Pipe; uncles Chuck Plant, Kevin Small; aunties Janice “Sugar” Collins and Donna Angstrom, Colleen Kirn.
She is survived by her parents Jerry and Arlene Small; sons Marques, Liddell, Wade and Brandon Small; brothers Terrell Sutherland and his wife, children Janea, Tyson, Chanel and Baby, Mike Headdress, Tony Headdress, Christopher (Olivia) Headdress; uncle Ray Lamb, Clarence MacDonald, Jr., Jen MacDonald, Linda Savior, Alvin Savoir, Jr., Frank (Connie) MacDonald, Jim (Penny) MacDonald; aunt Debbie Pipe and children Amanda, Horace, Jared, Heather, Jessica and Jake; nieces and nephews Seth Headdress, Louden and Ariel Headdress, Finesse, Essence and Valkerie Headdress, Cru Headdress and Jayden Headdress, cousin Pearlie MacDonald and her close friend William Red Star and the many others lives she touched.
We are going to miss our Nick coming home late at night or early in the morning. We would know she was here when she was laughing and being loud with her boys! No more suffering here anymore my girl! See you later when we meet in paradise with our Lord Jesus. See you later Puddytat!

Hi! My name is Bert and this is the name the Small family knows me by. Pauline and I are saddened to hear about Nikki’s passing.
The way I remember Nikki is when she was about 15 in 2000, we were visiting at her home one time and she was there and she was very cheerful and very friendly. I was impressed.
Both Pauline and I belong to the same Church as Nikki’s parents. We know them well, Jerry did a lot for us and so we have feelings for them. It makes us very sad to hear this but at the same time we also know that this life is a very small part of our overall existence. It is actually more like a dot on a line that goes on forever on both sides. On the left part of the line was our life before this life. In that life before this life we were with God. He created this earth life on earth for our eternal progression if we chose to prepare ourselves in that way. On the other side of the line is our life after death. We will be resurrected and so our bodies will never die again. All of earth life problems will not be there with us. And so this is my prayer that we will prepare ourselves for this great day of rejoicing that we will indeed be together again and for Jerry and Mini, this means that they will be with Nikki again. Let’s live with that in mind.

To my cousin Minnie Small (how tiny do you wanna be anyways?…a..) and family,
I met Nicole when she was with William, who my son John met at Rockie Fire Fighters training held in Poplar. She had her hands full, taking care of the babies but she seemed to handle it well, motherhood. I know what your feeling, losing your child, as I too lost 2 sons, within 11 months of each other, then my big sister Bonnie in between those 11 months. When it rains, it pours, it seems….I can only offer my prayers for you and your husband for the strength & guidance to raise those babies, as I have grandchildren to raise when my youngest son passed away in May, 2015 and its the hardest thing I ever did! When I was younger, I was blessed with taking care of 7 sons, it was a piece of cake and I flew thru it like I knew what I was doing! Now days everything is different when the boys were growing up, and I don’t know what day it is, at times. I seem to be so busy that my kids are going to have to start making appointments to see me, I am that busy taking care of grandkids, who knew? If I knew what I know now about raising kids, I would have whipped them a little harder than I did, as nobody ever listens to me, kids or grandkids! You can handle it, my tiny cousin “Minnie Small”….(a) Keep the faith, if I can, you can! PS: I don’t own any wheels in case I don’t make it to the services, you will all be in my prayers tho!
