Orlando Moses Young Jr., Walking Buffalo Boy, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Poplar Hospital.
Orlando “Blackie” was born in Williston, ND on August 29, 1985 to the late Orlando Young Sr. and Sarah Three Stars. Blackie lived all his life in Poplar and attended school there until the 10th grade. He also worked at the Poplar City Department for the summers, and later he attended Kicking Horse Job Corps for a while. This past summer he was adopted the Indian way by Beverly Bird and he received his Indian name, Tatonga Mani Hokshina (Walking Buffalo Boy) by his uncle, Steve Lilley. Blackie enjoyed fishing, hunting, cruising around with his friends, and joking around. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, Jesslynn, Julius, Jennessa. He also enjoyed playing the machines and scratch cards.
Blackie is survived by his mother, Sarah; adopted mom, Bevery “Shags” Bird whom he cared for and loved; adopted nephew, Louie Coucheran; brother, Mike Young; sister, Ashley (Jonathan) Vondall; uncles, Harry (Marva), Roy (MaDonna), Conrad, Mike, and William Young and Robert and Curtis Montclair; aunts, Kathy and Mary Lou Azure, and Luella and Melissa Montclair; grandmas, Naomi Montclair, Juanita Youngman, Velma Nepstad, Louise Smith, and Rosalind “Mae” Chaser; cousins, Harry and Ethan Three Stars, Preston Lowdog, Joseph Buckles, Joe and Jen Azure, Liz and Trish Lambert, Jeffery Azure, Louie, David, and Johnny Magnan, and Ida Fasthorse. He is also related to the Lester, Youpee, Olson, Carpentier, Longtree, DeMarrias, Bighorn, BlackDog, Rattling Thunder, Little Head, Braun, DeCoteau, Montclair, and Iron Bear families. Our family is too numerous to mention, if we left anyone out we apologize.
He is preceded in death by his father, Orlando Moses Young Sr.; grandma and grandpa, Harry and Hazel Three Stars; great grandmas, Sarah Three Stars and Effie Cloud Two Bulls; grandpa, Eugene “Cob” Weinberger.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
