Pierre Dale “Fritz” Youpee was born February 21, 1947 in Poplar, Mt. to Josephine Youngman and Leroy Youpee Sr. He attended schools in Poplar, Brockton Mt. and Pierre, South Dakota. Pierre was known to his family and friends as “Fritz” or “The Cat”. I think “The Cat” meaning he was a cool cat in his younger years.
Pierre was known to be always joking around and making his friends laugh. He loved his music such as church music, powwow music, 60’s music, and western tunes as well. He liked to visit with friends and they would talk about old times and laugh about crazy things they did. He joked about being a cowboy riding bulls in the rodeos (of course) and all his friends would chime in and tell a story too and they would all have a good laugh.
Pierre is survived by his sons; Kalijah Good Soldier, Cory, Cliff and Pierre Youpee Jr. brothers; Willard Dean(Terry) Youpee of Great Falls, Colma Roy Youpee of Oakland, California and Merle Boyd Youpee of Portland, Oregon, Leroy of Billings and John, Lloyd, Henry, James and Bernard Youpee all of Poplar. Sisters; Georgia Red Eagle, Joanne Browning, Ilona Jo, Mary, Pauline, Burma, Corina, and step mother Darlene Youpee. He is survived by two uncles Mike Youngman, and Lloyd Youpee, and one aunt Florence “Wospi” Eagleman. He was a Grandfather, and a great-grandfather to 19 younger ones.
Pierre was preceded in death by his son Richard Russel, daughters; Tiffany Hale and Irene Turns Plenty. His parents; Josephine and Leroy Youpee Sr. and brothers Charles Wakan, Dennis Ray and Larry Gene Youpee and one sister, Charlotte Wakan.
Pierre Dale “Fritz” Youpee, we know you are in the presents of the Lord, so we know you are rejoicing. Your family will miss you, but we know GOD needed you more. So until we meet again, see you in heaven.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at the Poplar Cultural Center. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 5 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Fritz was a good friend of mine. He taught me how to ice skate during our grade school years in Brockton. He could skate like the pros in the olympics. What a nice guy to know. Rest in peace my friend

Yes I was a friend of Colma up of Oakland California and it said that I just discovered that he passed away just shortly after. It was grief this morning when I saw after Googling Colma up that he had died November 2015 and now I cannot find why or how but I do know it looks like he was arrested soon before that and I want to tell everybody despite any faults, may have had he was a great and wonderful friend and leader and Medicine Man even though he never claimed to be a medicine man I so many times where he actually was unbelievably spiritual and a great leader to those who suffer under the burdens of Life they find difficult to bear. I am sorry and have a great for his family and the family of this beautiful Soldier here and oddly enough but just last month I met a man from standing Rock reservation here at the senior male in Florence Oregon who knew your family and I consider that to be a miracle since nobody like that ever shows up in Florence Oregon so I guess there was some spiritual event and that and I’m very sad today to have discovered these two men have passed into the next World however I know they will always be loved and remembered

I tried to say I was a friend of Colma youpee, a relative of this dear departed man who is listed it up there and I want again to say of all the men I ever knew in my life and I am a college-educated white lady a Cherokee but white and everything about this family is beautiful and spiritual and wonderful and I will never forget the influence and the incredible spiritual uplifting of knowing the Youpee family. Love and friendship are things that are hard to describe and they come in many different forms but the form that was gifted to me and knowing Colma is pressed upon my mind forever
