On February 1, 2015, the Creator saw that our mother was not doing well and saw that she needed rest. He took Mom home where only he could heal her. Now our mother is with all of her loved ones that went before her. Her sons Kiefer, James, and daughter Laura are there to greet her.
Our mother was born into this world as Rita Louise Youngman on December 28, 1933 and she left this world as Rita Louise Longchase.
Mom was married to Joseph Alfred Foote and from this union four children were born. Myrna (Cheyenne) Foote, Albert (Nancy) Foote, Sr., Laura (Richard) Foote, and Kiefer (Carol) Foote were born of this union.
Mom married George DeMarrias and from this union came Frank (Reba) DeMarrias, Georgia (Loren) Yellow Hawk, George, Jr., James, and Denise.
Mom attended Fort Peck Community College and graduated at 50 years old. She encouraged continued education for all, no matter what age you are. You are never too old to learn.
Mom Rita was a very good maker of Star Quilts and had many of them all over the world. Mom, we thank you for all that you did for all of your children, grandchildren, and 61 great grandchildren. You always went out of your way to help us out, especially cooking for the people. She was one of the few women who still cooked the traditional foods of our people. You always remembered the families who just lost their loved ones; you always took food to them.
You lived by our Dakota values: respect, compassion, caring, sharing, honesty, and humbleness. Now all of these memories are golden for us. We will continue to pray that we can carry on what you have taught us.
A wake for Rita will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center. Condolences for the family may be left at www.claytonstevensonchapel.com. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point has been entrusted with arrangements.

My relatives, My heart goes out to all of you I know how heavy your hearts must feel. Its a hard thing to lose a mother. I wish I could be there with you all Albert, and Cheyenne and the grandkids. Your mother was such a loving kind and generous woman. Through her you have become the good people that you are and that is something to be very proud of. I just want you all to know that my thoughts and my prayers are with each of you as you go through this hard time. Just remember all the good memories she gave you and treasure those as I will remember her kindness and her smile. May our Creator God bless each of you during this sorrowful time. Take care and know that you are being prayed for with many healing thoughts sent your way.

Albert/Nancy and Family:
I am at a loss for adequate words to express my grief for you. I had the blessed opportunity of knowing your mother and I know heaven just received one of its most special angels. Albert, You are a reflection of your mother in the way you treat people with respect and empathy, not to mention the way you make each person feel loved. I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers…

I have such good memories of Rita. She was a student in my classes at Fort Peck Community College in the 1980s. Rita exemplified that which is best in our culture: dignity, struggle, strength, and purity. Rita, I miss you and cherish the time spent all those years ago at FPCC.
