Roberta Louise Henderson Martell, 84, and wife of the late Floyd (Dominic) Martell Sr., began her journey on Saturday January 23rd. She was born July 20th, 1936 in Poplar, Montana. The only daughter of Sahnos Henderson and Emma Warclub.
Roberta’s life changed when she met her future husband Floyd (Dominic) Martell Sr. She later married the love of her life in Fairview, June 1954. Her family became and always was the center of her life. Roberta graduated with her Bachelors of Science (BS) of Social Work with honors and had her License in Addiction Counseling, BSW, LAC. Roberta worked over 60 years in Human Services. Starting at an early age working the fields, Nursing, Ambulance crew, Social Services, and finally an Addiction Counselor at the Spotted Bull Treatment Center. Roberta spent over 20 years in her role and was very involved in the resources and events that SBTC held.
Roberta was renowned for her quilting skills. She was an avid quilter, pouring her heart and soul into crafting each quilt. This was not just a hobby or for profit, but for Roberta, it was a way to communicate her love for her family. Roberta could be seen supporting her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, from the boxing club, basketball, football, volleyball, wrestling, track and cross country. She loved to sit and visit, old and new friends alike. Roberta was proud of her veteran and active-duty family in the military; starting with her brothers, sons, grandchildren and great-grandson. Roberta was a very humble woman and devoted her whole life to her husband and the family they had together.
Roberta was a proud matriarch of her family; her endless love and spirit will live on throughout her entire family. Roberta knew so many, and enjoyed her time with each and every one whom she crossed paths with. She was an inspiration and will truly be missed.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Sahnos Henderson and Emma WarClub. Husband, Floyd (Dominic) Martell Sr. Brothers; Buddy Campbell, Stanley Henderson, and Eugene Henderson. Sons; Jack Martell and Floyd Martell, Jr. Daughter; Lori Ann Martell. Grandchildren; Billy Jack (BJ) Martell, Delmer Martell, and Lisa Martell.
Roberta is survived by her children; Betty Martell, Monica Walking Eagle, Frank (Judy) Martell, Stanley (Latosha) Martell, Sophia (Mitch) Youngman, and Mildred (Bill) Martell. Daughter In-law Cheryl Martell. Grandchildren; Willard (Tsz Ling) White, Bernice (Michael) Jordan, Waylon (Connie) Youpee, DevenRay DeMarrias, Jasmine (Sean) DeMarrias, Donovan Martell Sr., Jessica Garcia, Tonetta (Orin) Cantrell, Roberta Not Afraid, Alfred Walking Eagle, Buddy Walking Eagle, Jack Walking Eagle, Chili Walking Eagle, Ida Walking Eagle, Frank Martell Jr., Cale (Klarissa) Martell, Brandon Martell, Cameron (Carly) Martell, Keandra Martell, Emma Martell, Maurice (Tiffany) Elk Jr., Ashley Elk, Chauncey Elk, Brandi Brown, Troy Brown Jr., Tommy (Ann) Brown, Zandalie BigHorn, Boy (Aileen) Youngman, Samantha Youngman, Sasha Youngman, Mitchell Youngman Jr., William Youngman, Anthony Youngman, Heather Martell, Miles (Lamoiya) Boxer, Lenny (Jenn) Boxer, Kristie Boxer, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Martell, Floyd Martell III, Duane Martell, Dawn (Jessie) Martell, Sabrina (Todd) Martell, and Betsy Martell. Several Great-Grandchildren.
A wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Poplar Cultural Center. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Martell family home. Due to Covid-19 facial coverings and social distancing will be adhered.
