Rose Marie (Unger) Friesen, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point, MT. Rose was born August 23, 1926 in Endicott, Neb. She was less than a year old when she moved with her parents to Lustre, MT.
Rose attended schools in Lustre and Wolf Point and was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Her main interests and talents were sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening and loving everyone especially children.
She sewed most of her daughter’s wedding dresses and also made their wedding cakes. The family would do almost anything for her Vereniki, homemade noodle soup and Zweiback to name a few of the favorites.
Rose loved to garden and would amaze her family by planting potatoes under straw and even planting peanuts and cotton just to see them grow.
Rose married Henry “Hank” Friesen, Sept. 3, 1945 and they were blessed with 6 children. Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Adams of Tucson, AZ. Kathleen Rose “Jackie” (Jerry) Handran of Glendive, MT, Denise Lucy (Tommy) Green of Belgrade, MT, Glenn Jay Friesen of Tucson, AZ, Carol Jean (Mel) Grigg and Stanley Hank “Stan” (Sonja) Friesen of Lustre, MT.
Hank and Rose moved into Wolf Point from the Farm 18 miles North of Oswego in 2000. In town she kept busy crocheting afghans for all of her children, grandchildren and then some until Alzheimer’s got the best of her. She moved to the Faith Lutheran Home in 2010 and loved every minute there because the staff was so good to her. They treat everyone like family.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents Abram and Anna (Unrau) Unger; husband Hank Friesen in 2011; her brother Edwin “Ed” Unger; sisters Leatha (Brown) Unger and LaVera and Helen Unger.
Rose is survived by her two brothers LaVern “Vern” Unger of Wolf Point and Larry (Charlotte) Unger of Lustre and all 6 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

I remember Hank and Rose always being warm, funny, and generous. And so happy with each other and proud of their big family. Rose’s sewing projects were amazing: so many adorable little kids to dress. Her gardening projects were always ambitious and creative. By the last time I visited their farm, in 1970, she had turned the yard into a showplace. They hosted a wonderful barbecue with lots of great food and plenty of Friesens in attendance, and Hank provided pony rides for the kids. They were lovely people.
Ardis Nichols says
I am so sorry to hear that Rose has passed. I have so many good memories of the
things we did together like Bible studies, and basketball tournaments, and all the years
she or Hank drove the school bus to Grand Prairie School.
I am sorry to miss the memorial service as i am unable to drive out of town.
My prayers & God’s Blessings to all the family.
