Rose C. Miller-Lilley went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 6, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones.
Rose was born on September 16, 1930 to Isaac and Julia (Clancy) Miller at Lohmiller. She was given the name Holy Wing Woman by Dallas Fourstar.
She met a handsome Navy man named Joe Lilley, Sr. while working as a waitress and he swept her off her feet. Together they had ten children: Julie, Sandra, Elaine, Steven, Lois, Joe, Jr., Terri, Perry, and Stacey.
Mom loved the holidays and having her house decorated. She loved to be around her children and grandchildren no matter which holiday it was.
Mom started working for the Fort Peck Headstart in 1968 as a teacher’s aide. She took college classes and received her AA in Early Education and became a teacher. Mom loved all the little children she taught throughout her 46 years of teaching. She would say how they all made a place in her heart and it wasn’t Teacher Rosie but Grandma Rosie. She loved to cruise around, play bingo, and she couldn’t wait for August to roll around so she could go down to the Wadopana Grounds and get ready for the Pow-Wow. She loved to be down there and order her children and grandchildren around. Rose was a lifetime member of the United Dakota Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children: Julie Christian, Sandra (Rayvan) Redstone-Lilley, Elaine (Nick) Barrera, Steven (Rhonda) Lilley, Lois Black, Chicky (Dawn) Lilley of Ronan, MT, Terri Adams, Perry (Imogene) Lilley, and Stacey (Curtis) Foster-Lilley. She is survived by her brother Willard Miller whom she loved very much and Franklin Whitright Miller of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, Sr., her son Bradley Lilley, parents, her sister Mercyline Walking Eagle and Elsie Brugier, her brother Joe Miller, her grandson Tanner Black, and her niece Rose Walking Eagle.
Rose’s relatives include: the Clancy’s, Badhawks, Standings, Bearcubs, Two Eagles, Lowdogs, Gourneau’s, Follet, her sister in laws Patricia DeCoteau, Barbara Billman, and brother in law Melvin Lilley, Sr. all of Belcourt, North Dakota.

Rose Lilley Family,
Your mother was a very special friend of mine. Her and I would always speak in Sioux to each other whenever we crossed paths. There are not very many left like her. I know Rose will watch over me from up there.

My condolences to the Rosie Lilley family, she sure was a wonderful lady. I will always remember her smile & her little laugh. This past fall I saw her at a gathering at the Community Hall & I told her I was glad to see her & happy that someone brought her, She laughed & gave me that smile & said “I drove myself, I got away” we just laughed. I found this poem & it is “Gramma Rosie”
TEACHER: It takes a special person to teach a child in class, To just keep his attention in a world that moves so fast. to show a child he is unique, with talents deep inside to help build his confidence, so he can beam with pride.
To show a little patience for a child who’s lost his way, to a child who feels abandoned who has seen better days. To inspire and to motivate so a child can learn and grow, to go into the wold that has its highs and lows. You are a Special Person, you always gave your best, and for every child who had your class their life is forever blessed.
Rest in paradise Rosie.

I was saddened to hear about Rosie passing away. She lived a long, full life, and impacted thousands of lives on the Ft Peck Reservation. My kids will forever remember her as Grandma Rosie, from their time at Headstart, and I know that the memories are fond ones.
To her family, my heart goes out to you, and you are in my prayers. I recently lost my aunt Gloria, and I know that when you lose your mother, if feels like your world is going to end. But your mother raised all of you to be your best, to be survivors. You will never forget her, but I assure you that the pain in your hearts will begin to fade when you begin to realize that your mother and my aunt Gloria are in a far, better place now. We need to live our lives so that when we pass over, we will see them again…

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to you. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are never alone. Turn to the Holy Scriptures for guidance and to help soothe your heart. Psalms 34:18 assures us that God is near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
