On January 17, 2014 the Creator called our loving mother home. Rose A. Cantrell was born on July 9, 1961 in Wolf Point, Montana to Otto Cantrell, Sr. and Nida Kennedy.
Rose was the mother to five children, Cheyenne, Austin, Casandra, Andrea, and Andrew. She also had been mom to her two nephews, Arthur and Ryan Cantrell, whom she adopted. From her children, she was blessed with 18 grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. When her children started Head Start, she began volunteering in the classroom. This is what led her to obtain her G.E.D. and C.D.A which began her work as a teacher for the Fort Peck Head Start. She then started to attend college at the Fort Peck Community College. In 2004, she graduated from FPCC with a Paraprofessional, AA in Early Childhood and Early Education. She was working toward her BA in Education from MSU Bozeman. Rose was involved in the Head Start Program for 20 + years.
Rose loved being a teacher but she had many other interests. She enjoyed playing pool and darts during league and would often play in tournaments. She enjoyed going to powwows and watching her grandchildren dance in the outfits she made for them. She also loved watching her favorite football team, the Denver Broncos, play. She had many other interests but these were some of her favorite. Rose had many family, friends, and in-laws, who will miss her dearly. During the time she had on this Earth, she was able to leave an impression on all she spent time with.
She was survived by her children, Cheyenne (Juan Juarez) Cantrell, Austin (Breanne) Cantrell, Casandra (Francis) Goodtrack, Andrea (Myron) Weston, and Andrew Martell; 18 grandchildren; companion, Donald Walking Eagle, Jr.; brothers, Otto Jr., Leonard, David, Arthur, Virgil, Newton, and Steve; sisters, Ida, Sylvia “Annie”, Vivian, Emma Mae, Mary, Hazel, and Yvonne; special lifelong friend, Duane Lodgepole; and many nieces, nephews, and adopted children too numerous to mention.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Otto Cantrell, Sr., and Nida Kennedy-Cantrell; brothers, Wayne “Jigs” Cantrell, Merle Lucas, Lwellyn “Rusty” Cantrell, Courtney Cantrell, Frankie Birds Bill, and Richard Cantrell Sr.; sister, Emily Cantrell; and many family members too numerous to mention.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 22 at the Community Hall in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 23 at the Community Hall in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Chicken Hill Cemetery west of Wolf Point. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.claytonstevensonchapel.com.
