Russell Dean Thompson Jr. (Big Russ) passed away suddenly on March 22, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends at NEMHS of natural causes. He was 42 years old.
Russell was born on April 6, 1973 in Wolf Point, MT to Russell D. Thompson, Sr. and Patricia N. Harris Thompson. He was the only son of Big Dean and was the apple of his eye.
As a young boy Russell enjoyed hanging out with all his friends and cousins on “Pumpkin Hill”. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dad and mom.
Russell would travel to Riverton, Wyoming with his mother every summer to spend time with his sister Kathleen Brannon and her family and all his nephews.
Russell attended school in Wolf Point, MT all the way up to when he graduated from high school in 1991. Russell was an excellent basketball player and played basketball for Wolf Point high school and he also ran track.
Russell was a great man and had a good loving and caring soul. He also liked to joke around and tease all of us and his friends, especially his brotha Darrell.
Russell (Big Russ) loved to read and visit with his family, especially with his son Drew. Just sit around watch a good movie on Netflix or watch YouTube videos. Russell loved to listen to music and his favorite band was AC/DC. He would ride around in his Big Dodge and turn up the music and just cruise.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends and loved to read.
Russell worked all over, but his favorite job was working as a correctional officer. He got certified from the state in 2001 and worked for the Fort Peck Tribes. His last job was working for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department for the last 6 years. He recently resigned due to his health issues.
Russell is survived by his wife Doris Headdress Thompson, his son Drew E. Thompson, his brother Darrell L. Taylor all from Wolf Point, MT, his son Matthew WhiteHorse of New Town, North Dakota and sister Kathleen Brannon of Riverton, Wyoming. Russell is preceded in death by his brother Dean Taylor, his father Russell D. Thompson, Sr. and mother Patricia N. Harris Thompson, his uncles Edward Thompson, James Thompson, Sr. and Pat Thompson.
Russell is also survived by his uncle Mike Thompson of Billings, MT and his cousin Mitch (Lauren) Thompson of Billings, MT, Jim Thompson of Seattle, WA, his auntie Margaret (Carl) Payne, Georgianne White Eagle and family of Great Falls, MT and Jr. (Sandra)White Eagle of Wolf Point, MT, Darrell (Karen) White Eagle of Casper, WY, his auntie Jan Thompson of Wolf Point, MT and numerous nephews and nieces. He’s also survived by his adopted sons Michael and Zach Budak, Kevin Burshia who was going to teach him how to play guitar and daughter Samantha Headdress and all his grandkids, Caitlyn Jean Granbois, Lyric Ash Lynn Dupree, Adrian Mark Budak and his most favorite little princess “Adaliyah Rose Budak”.
