Victor Michael Thompson, Wicakpi Maza “Iron Star” went to the other side December 6, 2015 in Billings, MT. He was born to Edith Bear Skin and George W. Thompson, Sr. on July 12, 1957 in Poplar, MT.
Mike graduated from Wolf Point High School in Wolf Point, MT in May of 1975. Mike went to Dawson Community College in Glendive, MT. While attending college he met the love of his life Linda Adams. They were married on June 12, 1976. Together they continued their education at Northern Montana College in Havre, MT where he went on to graduate with a bachelor degree in Business.
From their union they had the pride and joy of their lives, Mitch Thompson. He was their world and continued that loving support for Mitch through all these years.
Mike was raised in the Catholic religion and cultural ways of life. He received his fathers’ Indian name, Wicakpi Maza “Iron Star” to carry on his Traditional ways.
Mike, Linda, and Mitchy settled in Great Falls, MT where Mike worked for State Farm Insurance for many years. Mike also worked for Indian Health Services in Ft. Belknap, MT. He then moved his family to Wolf Point, MT where he took care of Linda with a disabling illness until she went to the other side. Mike moved to Billings and worked briefly, he then chose to move home to be with his brother Dean Thompson who had taken ill.
He became strong in his cultural ways, helping him with his family and facing life’s struggles we all have with the day to day issues. Mike respected what was taught to him and he set it aside in a safe place. His self medication and him being quite hard on himself, was the challenge he dealt with.
Mike loves his family, son, grandchildren and our people in his own humble way. They were loves of his life and motivation after his true love left, his wife Linda.
Mike had a very big heart, he worked part time while his wife was ill and then continued when she passed on. His passion of education and working with our people was his greatest concern. He taught G.E.D. classes and enjoyed working with people to successfully achieve this goal. Mike worked hard at concerning issues with his family and tribe. Mike chose to run for the Ft. Peck Tribal Council and held this position briefly until resigning from the position. In July 2013, he made the Big Lodge in Ft. Belknap, received bundle from Glenn Anaquod.
Mike is survived by his son, Mitch (Lauren) Thompson and Terry Joe Adams; grandchildren Angelica, Mitch, Jr., Dean and Halo; nephew Drew Thompson, Jim Thompson, Patrick George Thompson; cousins Darrel White Eagle and family, Joseph White Eagle, Jr. and family, Georgiann White Eagle and family, Margaret Payne and family; brothers Tommy Christian, Eric Bruguier; nieces Claudia Thompson of Albuquerque, NM, Georgiana Old Elk and family of Washington, D.C., Terry Thompson of Poplar, MT.
Mike is preceded in death by his wife Linda Thompson; parents Edith and George Thompson, Sr.; brothers George Thompson, Jr., Edward Thompson, Dean Thompson, Jim Thompson and Patrick Thompson; and nephew Russell Dean Thompson.

To My Relatives: I am sad to hear the news of my cousin’s passing but I am comforted in knowing he is no longer in pain and torment. I find myself reflecting on how life was when our kids were young and we spent time camping, cooking, visiting and of course laughing…those were special times. My prayers go out to Mitchell Roy and his family and all my relatives as we mourn the loss.May his journey be swift as he joins his great love, Linda (My Sister).

To the family of Mike:
I had the pleasure of knowing him, I worked with him at the college, then when he was elected to the TEB, he would come & visit with me about his plans & hopes for the Ft. Peck Tribes. He was always respectful & such a nice man, my prayers are with you during this difficult time & in the months ahead.

I remember clearly the day he was sworn in as a newly elected Tribal Councilman how he danced all the way in, I was captivated by his passion, this above all is what I will remember of him, the pride he had for being Native American. My condolences to the family, in the loss of your beloved

Mike was my relative, I am the daughter of the late Emery F Gray and Judy Gray. Mike and his wife helped me when I needed healing, when I was at one of the most difficult times of my life. I am sad that I won’t see him again in this life, but am happy that he is united with those on the other side. I will remember his kindness, great humor and concern for others. My condolences to Mike’s family and friends.

The first time I seen Mike is when he was dancing as him and all the other newly elected board members entered the room and he made me feel proud and happy, how cool is that!! I never even knew him but his humbleness stood out!! My prayers and deepest condolences for you all. 🙂

Uncle Mike and Aunt Linda shared a very special type of bond. One that was so strong, I know Uncle was warmly welcomed by her as he entered into heaven. I have so many great lessons learned as a kid watching how the two of them loved each other and Mitch. Our prayers are with you Mitch, and I know they are up there watching over us all.
Much Love,
Natty
